Someone has died and you need to send flowers. Or a parent is turning seventy and you are not going to make it up there. Both of those phone calls end the same way: you go looking for a florist who actually covers Belgian Gardens. I am Andrew Thomson. Siobhan and I have run Lily's Florist since 2009, and the florists in our network cover this postcode and the surrounding suburbs.
Belgian Gardens was called German Gardens until 1915, when it was renamed as a gesture of solidarity with invaded Belgium during the First World War. A suburb that changed its name to stand with people who were suffering. The impulse to send something meaningful during someone's darkest moment is in the name itself. The primary active cemetery sits on Evans Street, 14 hectares, and a florist covering this postcode knows the difference between condolence flowers going to a family's home and service arrangements routed through a funeral director.

Anna, qualified florist, 10,000+ orders processed across regional Queensland. Sympathy and milestone birthdays account for most of what goes out here. These four cover both ends.
Anna: Banksia and protea grow on Castle Hill above this suburb. Natives connect to the landscape and tolerate the tropical heat far better than imported roses. For a sympathy arrangement or a memorial visit, natives carry weight here.
View ProductAnna: White roses, green trick dianthus, lisianthus. The green trick gives 10 to 14 days at 28 degrees when roses give seven. For a family in Belgian Gardens after a funeral, white and green reads right for Catholic, secular, and most cultural settings.
View ProductAnna: The florist picks the strongest stems from market that morning. For a distance send where you cannot see the result, this format works because the florist has full latitude to build from what arrived freshest. 522 reviews at 4.5 stars across the network.
View ProductAnna: Asiatic lilies, not Orientals. No heavy fragrance, no pollen staining. The buds keep opening across the week as the roses peak and fade. For a birthday or anniversary in a Strand-side apartment, Asiatics make more sense than Orientals in warm, enclosed rooms.

The call that came through most from this part of Queensland was someone who had just lost a family member and needed flowers, but did not know who to address them to or where to send them. Two different orders get confused constantly. Condolence flowers go to the family's home address. The card says the family's surname. You can place that order any time in the first week. Funeral flowers go to the funeral director, not the cemetery, and you need the service date. The funeral home arranges placement at the chapel or graveside. If you send funeral flowers to the family's home, they arrive with no context and nowhere to go.
I took a call from a woman in Melbourne who had done exactly that. She ordered a standing wreath and addressed it to the family home. The family received a formal funeral arrangement on their doorstep, three days before the service, with no chapel to put it in. The wreath was beautiful. The timing and addressing made it useless. She rang us back in tears. We redirected it through the funeral director and it made the service, but only because we caught it early. Most of the time you do not get a second chance on sympathy timing.
Belgian Gardens Cemetery on Evans Street is the primary active cemetery for the region. Every funeral arrangement for the greater area passes through one of the funeral homes that service it: Morleys in West End, Townsville Funerals on Railway Avenue, Oceanview in Garbutt. The florist delivers to the funeral home. The director transports the flowers to the cemetery. Graveside tributes outside of a service are personal placements. If you are ordering for a service, get the funeral director's name and the service date. That is the information the florist needs.
Every temperate stem in a Belgian Gardens arrangement crossed 1,350 kilometres of Queensland by air overnight from the Brisbane wholesale market at Rocklea. The florist rehydrates them, conditions them, builds from what travelled well. In this heat, format matters as much as the flowers inside. A vase arrangement with a built-in water source outlasts a hand-tied bunch in paper by hours on a doorstep.
* How it works. You order, we connect with a florist covering the Belgian Gardens area, they make and deliver fresh.
The products above cover what to buy. This section covers how to get it right. The two biggest ordering categories for Belgian Gardens are sympathy and funeral flowers and milestone birthday sends from interstate. Both need different handling.
Someone has died and you need to do something from a distance. Flowers will not undo what happened. They are not supposed to. They say you are thinking of the family, and that is both the most and the least you can do from where you are.
Condolence flowers for home go to the family's address. Order within the first week. The card says the family's surname, not the deceased's first name, and one sentence is enough: "Thinking of you and your family." Funeral flowers go to the funeral director. You need the date of the service, the deceased's full name, and which funeral home is running it. In Belgian Gardens, that means Morleys in West End, Townsville Funerals on Railway Avenue, or Oceanview in Garbutt. The director transports the arrangement to the cemetery or chapel.
The timing carries more weight than the stems. Order funeral flowers at least 24 hours before the service date. From the thousands of sympathy orders I processed on the phones, the ones that went wrong were almost never about the flowers being ugly. They were about the flowers arriving after the family had already left for the cemetery, or arriving at the house when they should have gone through the funeral director. That one question sorts the entire order.
For families with Italian heritage, chrysanthemums are appropriate and expected at a funeral, but should never be sent as a gift to an Italian household under other circumstances. For Indigenous families observing Sorry Business, ask the family before sending. Australian natives are often preferred. For the 43% of Belgian Gardens residents who identify with no religion, celebrations of life tend toward personalised, bold arrangements rather than the default white. Ask what the person loved. Belgian Gardens Cemetery also hosts memorial events on Mother's Day and Father's Day, and the War Cemetery's 222 Commonwealth graves see wreaths on ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day. The Italian community marks Giorno dei Morti on November 2 with cemetery visits. These dates generate flower orders that most suburb pages would only associate with celebration.
Your parent turns seventy this year and has been in the same Belgian Gardens house since before the renovation boom hit The Strand. You are in Brisbane or Sydney. The birthday is this week and you will not be walking through the door with a cake. Over a third of households here are one person living alone. The flowers arriving at the door may be the only acknowledgment that day.
A vase arrangement is the better format. An elderly person living alone should not need to find a vase, cut stems, and fill it with water. The florist delivers it ready to display. For a recipient at Bolton Clarke in Rowes Bay, the arrangement goes to reception and staff bring it to the room. Add a delivery note: "Leave on front verandah" for the Queenslanders up the hill, or include an intercom code for the apartment blocks on The Strand. Before noon is the preference. An arrangement left on a doorstep past midday in the tropical heat has roughly thirty minutes before the stems start losing water. The card matters more than you think. "Happy birthday, Mum. Wish I could be there." That sentence sits on the kitchen bench long after the flowers are gone.
Most people default to roses for a milestone birthday. In this climate, roses peak for about four days before the outer petals start curling. A Florist's Choice arrangement or a native bunch gives ten days or more because the florist builds from what handles the heat. From thousands of milestone birthday orders I processed, the feedback was always better when the florist had latitude to choose stems rather than following a fixed recipe. The recipient sees colour on the bench for a week and a half instead of watching roses fade by Thursday.
Native flower arrangements from $42.95. Delivery $16.95.
Order Before 2pm for Same DayNone of the categories above matched. You know the person, you know Belgian Gardens, but you cannot quite name the reason for the flowers. Pick the Florist's Choice Arrangement from the products above. The florist uses the best stems available that morning and builds something suited to the area. You do not need a reason to send flowers. The person receiving them will not ask for one.
If the occasion is something harder to name, like a family who has experienced the loss of a child, Belgian Gardens has The Forever Garden at the cemetery on Evans Street. It was built in 2023 as a memorial space for families who have lost children to illness, stillbirth, or miscarriage. A single stem or a small posy placed personally can carry more than a formal arrangement. In that situation, the right answer may not be a delivery at all.
We were in Belgian Gardens for the first time on a trip up for Ivy's netball. The sun was going down over the harbour and we walked along The Strand past the Norfolk pines. You could see the cemetery gates from the path. Both things, right next to each other. The suburb holds that without blinking.
* Townsville harbour, June 2023. We were up for our daughter Ivy's state netball and I could not walk past this without stopping.

2pm weekdays, 10am Saturdays. No Sunday delivery. The florist batches morning runs along The Strand and the Castle Hill side streets to clear deliveries before the worst of the afternoon heat. Sunday orders queue for Monday morning.
Flat rate to Belgian Gardens and surrounding suburbs. Subsidised. One delivery fee regardless of product size. The same fee covers a single rose and a premium arrangement.
About a third of Belgian Gardens dwellings are apartments, concentrated along The Strand and nearby streets. Newer builds have intercom entry and sometimes concierge during business hours. Older walk-ups have open stairwell access but no safe-drop area. If the recipient lives in an apartment, include the unit number and an intercom code in the delivery notes. Adding "authority to leave at door" or "call on arrival" gives the florist a fallback if nobody answers. The rental rate in Belgian Gardens is over 40%, which means the name on the intercom may not match the recipient's name on the order. The more detail you can include, the fewer calls the florist needs to make at the door. Order before 2pm today and your flowers are there this afternoon.

"Good choice of florist when ordering from afar & being unable to view. Choice easy to make. Categories helpful. Site easy to navigate. Delivery prompt with only hours' notice. Recipient very pleased with native selection which was generous and true to the site picture. I would order with Lily's without hesitation, knowing the quality of the last order."
Ingrid · verified customer · Australian Native Arrangement · 25 February 2026
Send Natives to Belgian GardensIngrid ordered from a distance and could not see what arrived. That is the situation for most Belgian Gardens orders. The person buying is in another city. They cannot inspect the arrangement or verify the quality.
The native arrangement is built around banksia, protea, leucadendron, and eucalyptus foliage. Proteas drink water aggressively and the recipient needs to check the vase daily, but the flower head itself is close to indestructible. In this heat, a native arrangement gives 7 to 10 days where roses would give four. Ingrid's recipient confirmed the arrangement was "generous and true to the site picture." From the phones, the most common concern on native orders was size: people expected something smaller because the stems are structural rather than voluminous. Natives tend to surprise people in the other direction. The florist builds them with height and texture rather than density, and the result photographs well. The fact that Ingrid would order again tells me the florist matched the product image, which is the hardest part of any distance send.
One review told a different story. Narelle ordered funeral flowers three days before a service, was told they could not deliver until the day after the funeral, and the flowers never arrived at all. The order was refunded but the damage was permanent. That review sits at one star and it should. A late birthday delivery is fixable. A missed funeral delivery is not. There is no second chance at a service. If you are ordering sympathy flowers to Belgian Gardens and the service date is confirmed, order as early as possible. A 24-hour buffer is the minimum. The florist needs stem sourcing time and the funeral director needs the arrangement before the cortege departs. On a page about the suburb with the cemetery on Evans Street, that failure needs to be here, not hidden.
Once your order confirms, we route it to a partner florist in or near Belgian Gardens. The florist sources the flowers, builds the arrangement, and delivers. Most orders are on the bench within an hour of confirmation and out the door within two. For sympathy orders with a service date, the florist prioritises based on the funeral schedule. If you need to change the delivery date, the card message, or the address, call 1300 360 469 or email [email protected].
The confirmation you are waiting for is not from us. It is from the person who opens the door. Sometimes that call comes within the hour. Sometimes it takes a day, especially if the recipient was at work or at a medical appointment when the florist arrived. If you have not heard anything by the next morning, that is still normal. People put the flowers on the table and get on with their day. The thank-you comes when it comes. If something actually went wrong, if the flowers did not arrive or the arrangement was not right, call Andrew on 1300 360 469 during business hours. He runs the operational side and will follow up directly with the florist.
Belgian Gardens deliveries run through a florist who knows the suburb's split personality. Queenslanders on the Castle Hill slopes with wide verandahs and easy access. Apartment blocks near The Strand where intercom codes and delivery notes make the difference. And Evans Street, where the cemetery and the funeral homes create a delivery pattern that most suburbs do not carry. The florist working this postcode has seen all three.
