Australian Native Flowers

FROM THE FOUNDERS OF LILY'S FLORIST

Petal & Parcel

This is the dried side of what we do. Australian-grown native bunches that need no water and hold their shape for months, often longer, with Australian-made candles and gift sets, packed by hand in Kingscliff. From $65.

See the Range

You have already picked natives. Good call.

The four products in the grid above look almost the same in the photos. What actually separates them is the format. The flowers are similar; the real question is what the recipient has to do when the box arrives, and where it is going. Get that right and the rest looks after itself.

The floristry notes here are Anna's, our qualified florist of fifteen-plus years on the bench. She is the one who can tell you why a native arrangement holds its shape for weeks when a rose bunch is finished in a few days, and why the woody pieces keep going as a dried keepsake long after the soft blooms have gone.

Which native, and why the format decides it

All four are built from the same Australian stock: banksia, protea, leucadendron and seasonal eucalyptus, made up by a florist near the recipient. Here is what each one is actually for.

Australian Natives Bunch

The one most people order

Hand-tied, wrapped, delivered in water for the recipient to put in their own vase. The woody pieces dry naturally on the shelf for months after the soft blooms fade, which is why it has become our most popular sympathy choice. You are giving something that outlasts the week.

Australian Native Arrangement

Arrives in its own vessel

No vase hunt, no scissors, no re-cutting. Sending to a hospital, it goes straight onto the bedside table without the ward staff having to find a container. Sending to someone who lives alone, where you are not sure what they have at home, it removes the problem. See how hospital delivery works.

Natives With A Vase

The bunch plus a glass vase

For someone interstate you have not visited in a while. You do not know if they own a vase that holds woody, structural pieces. With the vase in the box, it no longer matters, and they have it for next time too.

Native Arrangement With Chocolates

The arrangement plus chocolates

For birthdays and thank you moments that will be opened in front of other people, where it needs to feel like a proper gift rather than a single gesture.

If the photos all look the same to you, ring 1300 360 469 and we will sort it in two minutes.

Will it look like a proper arrangement?

Anna, Qualified Florist

I fielded over ten thousand calls from our Pottsville office between 2010 and 2013, and the question I heard most about natives was some version of "will it look like a proper arrangement, or just a bunch of bush flowers?" It will look like a proper arrangement. The protea heads are sculptural, the banksia cones add texture and depth, and the eucalyptus foliage fills the shape the way a rose never could.

Belinda's photo above is what a real delivery looks like on a real kitchen bench, no styling, no studio. The florist built it from whatever came in strongest at the market that week, and it holds together because native stems have structure that soft imported flowers do not. They cost more than a standard rose bunch, from $126.20, because the stock is seasonal and the florists who build natives well are specialists.

The trade is worth knowing. The arrangement holds two to three weeks, and the woody pieces dry naturally for months after the soft blooms have gone. Per week of enjoyment, it works out cheaper than roses, even at the higher price.

Native flower questions, answered

Will natives look like a proper arrangement, or just bush flowers?

A proper arrangement. The protea heads are sculptural, banksia cones add depth, and eucalyptus foliage fills the shape. Built by a florist who works with natives regularly, the structure reads as deliberate, the work of someone who knows the stems. Belinda's photo above is a real, unstyled delivery.

How long do native flowers last?

The soft blooms hold two to three weeks in clean water, longer than most imported stems. The woody pieces, banksia, protea heads and seed pods, then dry naturally and keep their shape for months as a dried keepsake.

Which native format should I send to a hospital?

The Australian Native Arrangement. It arrives in its own vessel, so it goes straight onto the bedside table with no vase for the ward staff to find and no scissors needed.

Are natives a good choice for sympathy?

They are our most popular sympathy native, because they outlast the week and the woody pieces dry rather than wilt, so the family keeps something long after the service. White and structural rather than bright works best.
