Same Day Delivery - Depot Hill Wide
If you are on this page, you probably know somebody in Depot Hill and you are not close enough to visit them right now. That gap between wanting to be there and not being able to is the exact reason most people search for a florist. I'm Siobhan Thomson, and Andrew and I have been running Lily's Florist since 2009. Rocky was one of the earliest places we partnered with a florist, back when we were still faxing orders from our home office in Pottsville. We know this city. We know the south side.
Depot Hill is not named after a hill. It is named after an immigration barracks that operated on the site from 1866 to 1872. The ground is flat, barely above the Fitzroy, and locals have called the residents Swampies for as long as anyone can remember because the place floods so often that tinnies replace cars during the wet season. A florist who has worked this area knows which Queenslanders have stairs you can reach and which blocks go under first when the drainage at East Street starts backing up.

Anna, qualified florist, 15+ years across every postcode in the network. Sympathy orders run higher than average here. The first two products are built for that. The last two cover everything else.
Anna: The florist picks whatever came in strongest that morning. No photo to match means better stems for the budget. At this price point, it is the smartest entry into sending flowers to Depot Hill.
View ProductAnna: Muted whites and soft purples. The florist selects the palette from what looks best that day. Works at a service and then lasts a week on the kitchen bench at home afterwards.
View ProductAnna: 551 reviews at 4.5 stars. The florist builds from whatever they are most confident in that morning. Birthday, thank you, just because. Covers every reason that is not sympathy.
View ProductAnna: Foam arrangement in a mirrored cube. No vase required, no water to manage. The blue delphinium fades by day five but the lily buds crack open behind it and carry the arrangement into week two.

A caller from Emerald rang one January asking if we could guarantee delivery to Depot Hill by 3pm. It was a sympathy order. The Fitzroy was at 5.8 metres and climbing. I pulled up the road status and told her we could get the order there that morning but I could not promise the afternoon. She moved the order to morning delivery and I pushed it through as urgent. The flowers went out before ten. By lunchtime, the drainage at East Street had started backing up and the approach from the south was getting difficult. The morning window was the difference between delivered and returned to the shop.
Depot Hill goes under first in every major flood. When the gauge passes seven metres, water does not rise from the river into the streets. It comes up through the drains. The stormwater system reverses and pushes river water back into the suburb from underneath. On 20 January 2026, the Fitzroy reached 6.9 metres. Not even a major flood, and it still closed access to low-lying sections. The suburb has flooded so many times because the same flat ground that made it practical for the railway workshops built here in 1918 is the ground the river reclaims first. The housing for those railway workers is still there. Older Queenslanders, elevated on stumps, many of them through their third or fourth flood event. 995 people live here. Median household income is $955 a week, the lowest in the cluster. Sympathy orders, Sorry Business, and quiet gestures for people going through hard stretches make up a bigger share of the flower demand from Depot Hill than birthday parties or celebrations.
Outside flood season, the bigger challenge is heat. The region sits right on the Tropic of Capricorn. Every stem that arrives in a partner florist's cool room has already spent ten to twelve hours on an overnight truck from Brisbane Markets at Rocklea, 636 kilometres south. A chrysanthemum handles the run without complaint. A sweet pea arrives half-dead. The Buddhist Temple on Jellicoe Street in Port Curtis, right next door to Depot Hill, generates flower demand for Vesak offerings every May, and the stems need to survive the same freight run. The partner florists build from road-hardy stock because there is no margin for anything that cannot tolerate the distance.
There is no warehouse. No airport box. You place an order, we pass it to a partner florist in or close to Rockhampton, and they build it on their bench that morning from stems they sourced at market. The arrangement goes out the door in water, in their van, driven by someone who knows which end of East Street is open and which end is not.
* Our chalkboard in the Kingscliff office. It maps every step of an order from the moment you click through to the moment the florist's van pulls into the driveway.
The products above cover what to buy. This section covers the part that trips people up: when to send, how to address it, and what to write on the card. Depot Hill has a strong community around funerals and condolence, so that is where we start, but we also cover hospital flowers and quiet thinking-of-you gestures.
Someone in Depot Hill has lost a person. You found out, and you are not nearby. That distance makes everything feel worse because sitting in another city reading a message about a funeral you cannot attend is a particular kind of helpless. The flowers are not going to fix that feeling, but they will be there when you cannot.
The first decision is where to send. If you want to express condolences to the family, send to their home address. If you want flowers at the service, send to the funeral director's name and the date of the service. Tucker and Nankivell, Finlayson and McKenzie, Harts, Des Allen, and Fitzroy Funerals all operate in the area. The family or the death notice will name which one is handling the arrangements. Send within three days. Keep the card to one sentence. Something like "Thinking of your family" does the job. Avoid framing the loss as a positive.
I processed a lot of funeral flower orders to this part of Central Queensland. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in Depot Hill and surrounding suburbs runs large funerals, often at short notice, with extended family travelling from across Queensland. Sorry Business arrangements tend to be bigger, brighter, and needed faster than a standard sympathy order. If you are ordering for a Sorry Business service, call us rather than ordering online. The team can push it through as urgent and make sure the florist has time to build something that matches the scale.
Having someone in hospital and not being able to visit is a particular kind of anxious. You want to do something tangible. Flowers are that thing. Rockhampton Hospital is the main referral hospital for Central Queensland, 304 beds, up on Canning Street in The Range. The Mater Private is nearby on Ward Street. Both are a short drive from Depot Hill, south side of the river, no bridge crossings needed.
Flowers go to the ward reception desk, not bedside. The staff log them and walk them through when they can, usually within a few hours. Include the patient's full name and ward number on the card. If you do not know the ward, call the hospital switchboard. The biggest timing risk is discharge. If the patient goes home before the flowers arrive, the hospital will not redirect them. In our experience, day two of a hospital stay is better than day one for sending. Day one is chaos for the patient and the family. Day two, the room is settled, visitors have thinned, and a bunch of flowers on the bedside locker is genuinely welcome.
I took a lot of get well orders to the hospital. One thing callers rarely think about is fragrance. Oriental lilies smell incredible in a living room, but in a shared ward with a patient who is nauseous or recovering from surgery, the scent can be overwhelming. A foam arrangement like the Blue Mist works well in a hospital room because it sits compact on the locker, needs no vase, and the lily buds open gradually rather than hitting the room with fragrance all at once. If you are not sure, tell the team when you call and they will steer the florist toward something lower-scent.
Not everything that warrants flowers has a name. Maybe someone you know in Depot Hill is going through something difficult and a phone call feels like too much. A bunch of flowers on the verandah says what a text message cannot.
Anna, florist, 15+ years: The older Queenslanders in Depot Hill almost all have covered front verandahs, raised on stumps. That is good news for delivery because the flowers are out of direct sun from the moment they land. For a thinking of you delivery, the florist can leave them on the top step if nobody answers. The cover does the work of a porch or an entryway in a newer suburb. If you want to add a personal message, keep it short and specific. Something that names the situation is better than a generic "thinking of you." People read the card before they look at the flowers.
Florists Choice Sympathy Bunch from $74.50. Delivery $16.95.
Order Before 2pm for Same DayThe Deal Of The Day Bunch lets the florist pick whatever came in strongest that morning. No photo to match, no specific stems dictated by a website. The florist spends the wholesale budget on what they believe in. At $42.95, it is the lowest entry point in the range and in our experience, the perceived value almost always lands above the price because the florist is buying abundance, not scarcity. For a suburb like Depot Hill where the occasion could be anything from a birthday to a quiet gesture, giving the florist freedom is the safest bet.

Flat rate, subsidised. A florist close to the area covers Depot Hill as part of their standard south-side route. We absorb the difference between what it actually costs and what you pay.
During the wet season (December through March), road access to parts of Depot Hill can change quickly when the Fitzroy rises. A partner florist near Depot Hill monitors the river gauge and shifts delivery runs to morning windows before conditions close in. If we cannot safely deliver, we will call you before attempting. Order before 2pm today and your flowers are there this afternoon.

"Absolutely the best! It was very easy to go on the website and choose the flowers that we wanted. There was a lot of choice too. I requested that the flowers be delivered within a certain time frame as our Mum is elderly. The beautiful flowers were delivered by a lovely lady who also wished our Mum a 'Happy Mother's Day' too. Our Mum absolutely loves the flowers. Thank you for making her day extra special!"
Sandra · verified customer · Blue Mist Arrangement · May 2025
Send This ArrangementSandra asked for a specific delivery window because her mum is elderly. One detail in the review tells you what matters most in this kind of order: the timing, not just the flowers. And it worked. The florist got there inside the window, and went further by wishing her mum a Happy Mother's Day in person. Nobody can script a moment like that. A florist who reads the card and understands the occasion creates it on their own.
The Blue Mist sits in a mirrored cube with soaked floral foam holding everything in place. White roses anchor the base, Oriental lily buds carry the arrangement into its second week, and the blue delphinium spikes give the whole thing a colour that barely exists in commercial floristry. Genuine blue. Not purple, not mauve. The foam means the recipient does not need to find a vase, cut stems, or do anything at all. For an elderly person, or someone in a hospital room, that self-contained format removes every barrier between the flowers arriving and the flowers being enjoyed.
One thing to know: Jennifer, another verified buyer, noted the flowers were delivered later in the day than expected. It happens. Delivery windows are targets, not guarantees, especially in regional areas where the florist is covering a wide run. If timing is critical, call us and we will flag it as priority.
Once your order is confirmed, it routes to one of our partner florists nearby. They build it, they deliver it. Most orders are on the bench within an hour of confirmation and out the door well before the cutoff. You will not get a photo of the finished arrangement before it is delivered. What you will get is a phone call or a message from the person who receives it, and that is the part that matters.
If something goes wrong, or if the flowers do not arrive, or if they arrive and they are not right, call us on 1300 360 469 or email [email protected]. We are on the phone 7am to 6pm weekdays.
If a complaint comes in, I deal with it. Not a call centre, not a third party. I ring the florist myself, I find out what happened, and I call you back. Siobhan reads every complaint that comes through email and follows up to make sure the resolution actually resolved it. We have had 23,362 verified reviews on Feefo. Not all of them are five stars. The ones that are not are the ones we learn the most from, and the ones we take the most seriously. If something is not right, we want to know about it before you leave a review, not after.
Your flowers travel a short route from the florist to Depot Hill. On the south side of the river, there are no bridge crossings, no highway merges. The florist can be at a doorstep on Campbell Street or O'Connell Street within minutes of leaving the workshop. During the dry season that run is as straightforward as any delivery in Rocky. During the wet, it takes a florist who watches the gauge.
