Same Day Flowers to North Hobart, Hand Arranged by a Hobart Partner Florist

Someone has a birthday, or a thank you that is overdue, or something worth celebrating, and you are not in the same city. I get it. I have ordered flowers to people I love from my phone in a car park more times than I can count (usually running late for something else). I am Siobhan, and Andrew and I have been running Lily's Florist since 2009. Hobart was our 16th partner city. We flew down in June 2024, froze immediately, and fell for the place completely.

North Hobart is the strip. Elizabeth Street, named by Governor Macquarie after his wife in 1811, runs from Sullivans Cove through the CBD and into this suburb. The six blocks between Tasma and Federal streets are where Hobart goes to eat, and the foot traffic, the Friday night crowds, the Saturday cinema-goers at the State all mean one of our partner florists near North Hobart is covering a suburb that runs on celebration, thank yous, and birthdays, not funerals.

North Hobart flower delivery from $42.95. Order by 2pm weekdays or 10am Saturdays for same day delivery. $16.95 flat delivery fee.

Anna: The thank-you gift for a restaurant owner, a bar manager, a colleague who got you a table on a Friday night. Chocolates and treats say what flowers alone sometimes do not.

Bright Mixed Gerberas Bunch

Anna: Gerbera stems are hollow and droop in warm cities by day two. Hobart's cool rooms give them six or seven days without wiring. The colour pops in a text-back photo.

Yellow Lilies Bunch

Anna: Asiatic lilies, no fragrance, 10 to 14 days in Hobart temperatures. The buds stagger open across the week, so the display refreshes itself. Bright enough for a birthday, wrong for sympathy.

Anna: Soft pink roses and lisianthus in a glass vase. The lisianthus outlasts the roses by three days, so the arrangement has a second act. This is the dinner-party product for someone with taste.

Why Flowers Last Longer in Hobart Than Almost Anywhere Else

I took calls from the Pottsville home office for three years, April 2010 to June 2013, processing orders to every major city in Australia. The pattern I saw across thousands of conversations was complaints about vase life coming disproportionately from Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and western Sydney. Hobart complaints were different. People called about card messages, about timing, about whether lilies were right for a hospital. Almost nobody called to say the flowers had wilted.

Temperature is the answer. Hobart sits in a cool oceanic climate where summer maximums average 20 to 22 degrees and winter hovers around 12. A bouquet left on a North Hobart doorstep in July faces zero heat damage. The flowers that give a Brisbane customer five days give a Hobart customer eight or nine. That extra time is not marketing. It is physics. Bacterial growth in vase water slows in cooler rooms, and the cut flowers keep drinking instead of sealing shut.

The trade-off is supply. Tasmania has no wholesale flower market comparable to Flemington in Sydney or Epping in Melbourne. Most commercial stock crosses Bass Strait on the Spirit of Tasmania overnight, from Dandenong or Epping, arriving in Kingston the next morning. The Hobart florist loses a day of vase life to transit. What they gain back on the other side, in cooler shop temperatures and cooler doorsteps, more than compensates. A rose that is a day older when it arrives still outlasts the same rose sitting in a 32-degree Sydney hallway.

How Flowers Get to North Hobart

The florist picks what came in best that morning. No warehouse. No airport box. The flowers are on the bench at 7am and at the door by the afternoon.

Every order is made fresh by a florist in or near Hobart, not shipped from a fulfilment centre.

What to Send to North Hobart

The products above handle the what. This section handles the how. North Hobart's occasion profile skews heavily toward celebration and gratitude, which makes sense for a suburb built around hospitality, restaurants, and the State Cinema. Below are the three occasions our partner florist near North Hobart covers most often.

A Birthday on the Strip

They are turning another year older and you cannot be at the table. Which is the whole reason you are here. The flowers go on your behalf, which is not the same thing, but it is what you have. If the birthday falls on a Friday or Saturday, North Hobart's restaurant and bar traffic means parking gets tight after 6pm. Weekday mornings before midday are when deliveries go smoothest on Elizabeth Street, and a birthday arrangement for a friend is usually at the door well before lunch.

Anna, Qualified Florist

I processed a lot of birthday orders to Hobart from mainland callers who wanted something that photographs well. That text-back photo is the only way the sender knows the flowers landed. Gerberas photograph better than almost any other stem because the flat faces catch light evenly, and in Hobart's cool rooms they hold their shape for six or seven days. The Bright Mixed Gerberas in the grid above are built for exactly that scenario. If the recipient is someone who prefers subtlety, the Rose Garden Bunch reads as considered rather than loud.

Saying Thank You to Someone Who Went Out of Their Way

A favour that was bigger than it looked. A colleague who covered for you. A neighbour who brought meals when things were rough. The gesture needs to match the favour without overshooting it, which is the calibration problem with thank you flowers. In North Hobart, a decent proportion of thank-you orders go to restaurants and cafes as staff gifts or appreciation for a venue manager who squeezed you in.

I kept a rough count of thank-you calls during my time on the phones. They ran about 15 percent of total volume, and the pattern was remarkably consistent. The caller knew the favour was worth more than a card but did not want to go as far as a grand romantic gesture. Mid-range is the target. The Sweet Hamper covers a lot of this ground because it arrives as a complete gift, chocolates and treats included, and takes the pressure off choosing the right stems. For a workplace delivery, a gift like this sits on a desk without raising questions the way a dozen red roses would.

Celebrating Something Worth Marking

A promotion. A new apartment. Someone finally got the keys to a place on one of the side streets off Elizabeth. The occasion is good news, and flowers say you noticed. North Hobart's just-because culture runs higher than most Hobart suburbs because the hospitality scene creates a steady current of congratulations: a new restaurant opening, an anniversary for a bar that survived another winter, a Dark Mofo season launch.

The question callers got stuck on was colour. Celebration flowers need to read as joyful and steer clear of accidentally coding as romantic. Pink and red say one thing. Yellow and bright mixed say another. Asiatic lilies in the grid above are fragrance-free and hold their colour for over a week at Hobart temperatures. They sit on a kitchen table or a cafe counter and say congratulations, and nobody reads anything into the sender's intentions.

Not sure what to send?

None of those matched. Fine. For North Hobart, the Florist's Choice lets the florist build from whatever arrived freshest that morning. In a cool-climate shop where stems last longer in the bucket, the florist has more room to experiment. Tell them the occasion in the order notes and they will adjust the palette. Bright for celebration. Soft for something gentler. They do this dozens of times a week.

North Hobart was where we kept ending up for dinner. Every night of that trip we would say we would try somewhere different and then just walk back up Elizabeth Street again.

Andrew, Siobhan, Asha and Ivy in Hobart, June 2024. We ate on Elizabeth Street almost every night. One evening I ordered an Aperol Spritz at a bar near the State Cinema and Ivy ate handmade pasta at a little Italian place. Cleaned her entire plate, which is rare enough to remember.

How to Order Flowers to North Hobart

Phone

1300 360 469
7am to 6pm weekdays
10am Saturdays
Or order online any time.

Same Day Cutoff

2pm weekdays, 10am Saturdays. No Sunday delivery. Elizabeth Street foot traffic peaks Friday and Saturday evenings, and the florist avoids that window. Sunday orders queue for Monday morning.

Delivery $16.95

Flat rate, subsidised. North Hobart is 3 kilometres from the CBD, so the florist covers it on the same run. We absorb the difference between the $16.95 you pay and what the delivery actually costs.

Parking and Access on Elizabeth Street

Commercial parking on Elizabeth Street is expensive and limited, especially Friday and Saturday. Residential side streets have some on-street parking but it fills fast during peak dining hours. If the delivery is to a restaurant, bar, or cafe, the florist coordinates timing around service hours. For residential deliveries above a shopfront, order notes with a unit or flat number help the florist get it to the right door. Order before 2pm today and the hamper is there this afternoon.

"Superb products and services!!!! This company went above and beyond with their service and product. They put together an amazing hamper for my friend's birthday with quality products that actually get used and are liked not things people don't really eat. The hamper was great value for money and presented as enticing!! Delivery was exceptional and loved the ease of being able to complete the whole process online."

Send the Same Hamper

The Florists Choice Sweet Hamper is the lead product on this page for a reason. North Hobart's occasion profile runs heavy on thank-you and celebration, and a curated gift closes a gap that flowers alone sometimes leave open.

Anna on the Sweet Hamper

Roslyn's review hits the detail that matters. She says the products are things people actually use, not generic filler. The difference between a gift that gets opened and picked through versus one that sits on the kitchen bench untouched comes down to curation. The florist curates the contents from what is available, which means the selection varies, but the principle holds: edible treats, quality chocolates, items that feel considered rather than assembled from a clearance bin. For a birthday gift to North Hobart's demographic, which leans toward food-aware people who eat out regularly, the bar is higher than average. This review confirms it cleared that bar.

After You Order

Your order hits a florist in or close to North Hobart. They pull the flowers, build the arrangement or pack the gift, and run the delivery. The Elizabeth Street strip is compact, three kilometres from the CBD, and the florist covers it on the same circuit as surrounding suburbs. If the delivery is to a residential address on one of the quieter side streets off Elizabeth, they will leave it at the door with any safe-place instructions you included in the order notes.

If something goes wrong, or if you want to check on the delivery, call 1300 360 469 during business hours (7am to 6pm weekdays, 10am Saturdays) or email [email protected]. We look at every complaint. We have been doing this since 2009 and the mistakes still bother us.

Andrew on What Happens If the Flowers Are Not Right

I am the one who reads the complaints. Every single one. Most of the time the issue is timing or a misread on the delivery address, and we sort it out the same day. Occasionally the arrangement does not match expectations, and when that happens I go back to the partner florist directly. The phone number is on every page for a reason. If the flowers arrive and something is off, ring us. Do not sit on it. We would rather fix it the day it happens than hear about it in a review a week later.

If you have not heard from the recipient yet, give it a day. Most people do not call or text the moment flowers arrive, especially if they are at work or out on Elizabeth Street somewhere. The silence is normal. The flowers are there.

North Hobart is one of those suburbs that gets better the more you visit. We first walked the Elizabeth Street strip in June 2024, shivering in jumpers we had packed for Sydney weather (wrong), and by the third night we had given up pretending we would try anywhere else. The State Cinema was showing something we had never heard of and Ivy ate handmade pasta without complaint. That is as close to a holiday miracle as we get.

Andrew and I started Lily's Florist in 2009 from a small shop in Kingscliff, NSW, after buying it against our accountant's advice with zero experience and a baby on the way. The network has grown to over 800 partner florists across Australia. Read our full story here.
