6 Tips & Ideas On Creative Flower Decorating

Bring a touch of natural warmth into your home by displaying fresh flowers. What could be more cheerful and friendly than greeting and welcoming your guests with a display of large yellow or orange flowers in the entryway. Pick fragrant blooms to display in the kitchen to keep you in good spirits while preparing meals for your loved ones. Luxurious roses and fabulous peonies are ideal in the bedroom for that refreshing yet romantic vibe.

Flowers can easily brighten up a dull space or a bad mood. It can spruce up your home décor in a flash and at very little costs. When you don’t have the budget to make a major upgrade, just add flowers here in there and see how your humble abode will look bright and new. Aside from improving the looks of any space, it can also better the smell and the vibe of your home. The subtle fragrance of fresh flowers is enough to make your home smell better and feel more clean, inviting and relaxing.

Fresh blossoms are also known to spark creativity and imagination. Perhaps the natural beauty of fresh flowers inspire anyone who sees it to appreciate beauty and make something beautiful. And as one’s creativity is unleashed, so are his/her happy hormones which reduce stress and promote relaxation and self-healing.

Flowers indeed have many wonderful benefits and we, at Lily’s Florist, would like you to enjoy those magical rewards.

To help you strategically and creatively display flowers at home, we’re sharing these tips in floral decorating.

Tip no.1. Use unique or quirky containers

Instead of using traditional glass vases, opt for other containers readily available in your home. Teacups, candleholders, mason jars, old wine bottles, vintage pitchers, unused carafes, and even perfume bottles can all be used to hold fresh blossoms. Wooden spools make interesting bud vases. Rain boots with white daisies make awesome spring décor.

Tip no.2. Display flowers as a work of art

Familiar with the Beauty and the Beast rose? Enclose a bloom you love in a glass dome and display it in your living room’s side table or in the console table in the hallway. Make a floral door display by hanging a wicker basket filled with large gerbera daisies and some fresh greenery in your front door. An unused space in a bookshelf can be used to display small flower arrangements sorted by colour. Use a rustic lantern to display romantic flowers like roses.

Tip no.3. Plant up.

Up, upward, toward a higher point is what we mean. Add height to your space by displaying flowers in hanging planters. Nowadays, there are funky hanging planters in geometric shapes that can bring depth and dimension to flower and home decorating. The usual woven baskets are still, of course, available and beautiful and are just perfect for that more homey, country chic style. And if you want a quirkier hanging flower pot, plant flowering houseplants in colourful colanders.

Tip no.4

Upcycle plant pots and vases. Give a makeover to your existing flower containers and make it look new and more stylish. Clear glass vases can be painted with confetti dots or paint splatter. You can also knit a cover for small vases. Dip white ceramic vases in gold paint for a classier look. Tall and slim glass vases can easily be turned into ombre bud vases. Decoupage with lace, glue studs, or wrap vases with jute cord or baker’s twine.

Tip no.5

Create large flower centerpieces. Make your floral art stand out by creating big, attention-grabbing flower arrangements. Proudly display an ensemble of pink blossoms in a cake stand. When hosting a dinner at home, decorate the dining table with a fresh florals and greens table runner.

Tip no.6.

Use flowers in season. You can get more from your budget (and decorate your home with more fresh flowers as often as you’d want) if you use flowers that are in season. Anemones are available during September to November while Dahlias are available during November to May. You can get freesias from January to October and daffodils from June to September. Hyacinths are in season during April to October while lilacs and lily of the valley are a plenty during the month of October. Cymbidium Orchids are available during autumn to winter while cyclamens are available during winter to spring. Alstroemerias, Asiatic lilies, banksias, gerbera daisies, delphiniums, kangaroo paw, leucadendron, lisianthus and sunflowers are all available year round.

When arranging fresh flowers, don’t forget to start with a sparkly clean container. Use fresh water and change it every few days. Remember to thoroughly clean the vase every water change. Re-cut the stems underwater and remove any dull or damaged outer petals.

And while flowers can make a difference to your interiors, so does potted greens. Don’t hesitate to display foliage, if that’s what you prefer, as they are just as beautiful as coloured blossoms.

Reap the rewards of nature by bringing nature indoors. Primp and prettify your living space with botanical elements, whether fresh flowers or live plants, and see how nature gives back what you give.
