The phone team take hundreds of calls a week. Plenty of those are straightforward orders, but the birthday ones often need a bit more. What colour? What does she like? Is it a 30th or a 70th? From Andrew, on what we changed for aged care orders

Aged care orders went wrong in a pattern we saw enough times to do something about. The family rang it in from interstate, gave us the patient's first name and the facility, and assumed the wing or unit was on file somewhere. It was not. The bunch sat at reception while a nurse walked the building looking for the right person, and by the time it reached the room the morning visiting window was gone, the photo never got taken, and the family heard nothing for the rest of the day.

We changed the order form. Aged care addresses now have a required field for the wing or unit. If the customer does not know it, the phone team rings the facility before dispatch. Adds ten minutes to the order. Saves the afternoon.

The flowers do not cover the visit you did not make. They mark that you tried to.

If the recipient has not rung or texted by the end of the day, that is normal for an aged care delivery; the resident is often resting or in the dining room when the flowers arrive. The reception team logs the drop time and the phone team can confirm it.
