Flower Delivery Condon QLD, Same Day to the Upper Ross

You are ordering flowers into Carlyle Gardens or the Shalom Elders Village, and you are not in Condon. You are in Townsville's east, or Brisbane, or Sydney, and you cannot deliver them yourself. Villa numbers matter here, reception hours matter, whether the stems need a vase matters more than it does for a home address. I'm Andrew, co-founder of Lily's Florist. I have been fielding the Upper Ross calls since the postcode came onto our network in 2009, and the aged care half of this postcode is most of what we handle.

Beck Drive holds Carlyle Gardens and the Carlyle Medical Centre. A block away on Hervey Range Road is the Shalom Elders Village, a 28-bed Pinangba-operated First Nations aged care facility on Bindal and Wulgurukaba Country. Our partner florist in or close to Condon runs both streets weekly. The villa numbers are already in their phone.

Four Picks for the Upper Ross, and Why They Fit

Anna, qualified florist, 15+ years hands-on, thousands of aged care and sympathy orders fielded from Pottsville. Sending to Carlyle Gardens or Shalom Elders? Go with one of the three arrangements, they arrive self-contained with no vase work for the nursing staff. Sending to a home address? The bunch gives more stem for a vase.

Florists Choice Bright Mixed Bunch
Florists Choice Bright Mixed Bunch

The warm-palette bunch for a Condon birthday. Hot pink roses, statice that holds its colour after the roses fade, the florist picking what came strong off the Rocklea truck that morning. Milestone birthday at Carlyle Gardens or a bench at a freestanding house on Kaoriki Court, both work.

Florists Choice Bright Mixed Arrangement
Florists Choice Bright Mixed Arrangement

The box version of the lead bunch. Mirrored silver cube, soaked foam, dome profile. No vase needed, no stem trimming. Arrives complete. The format the Carlyle Gardens reception staff prefer because there is no water work for the resident. The palette reads the same as the bunch on a screen, but on a reception desk the mirrored cube looks intentional where a wrapped bunch looks in transit.

Rose and Carnation Arrangement
Rose & Carnation Arrangement

The softer thinking-of-you box for an aged care resident. Soft pink roses, spray roses, germini gerberas, and the carnations are the engine room here. Carnations hold two weeks at 28°C. In a Carlyle Gardens villa with the AC on low, these outlast anything else we could send.

Oriental Lily Arrangement
Oriental Lily Arrangement

For the service at Fitzgerald's or a Catholic home. White orientals in a mirror cube, five to seven multi-headed stems at staggered stages so the blooms open over ten days, not all at once. The default for Italian Catholic sympathy. Not for Shalom Elders or Carlyle Gardens, the fragrance is heavy in shared rooms.

Order Flowers to Condon
What to Send for First Nations Sympathy, and Why Natives Carry the Weight

Anna, Qualified Florist

The first question callers would ask me on an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander sympathy order was always some version of "what's the right thing to send." There is no one answer. Every community is different, every family is different, and the safest opening is to check with the family or the funeral director before the florist picks stems. I took that call hundreds of times from Pottsville between 2010 and 2013, and the people who asked the question first never ended up with a regret. The ones who guessed sometimes did.

Where flowers are welcome, Australian natives carry a weight that imported roses never will. Banksia, waratah, kangaroo paw, wattle, eucalyptus, grevillea. Wattle associates with love and friendship. Waratah associates with renewal and honouring Elders, which reads right at the Shalom Elders Village on Bindal and Wulgurukaba Country specifically. Natives also survive what a Condon February does to a doorstep. They grew up in this soil. The imported stems came off a truck from Rocklea overnight and start their vase life already a day older than the same stem would be in a Brisbane house.

On aged care orders the other question is format. Box arrangements beat bunches in both places. The reception staff will not trim stems or find a vase for a resident. A bunch in a villa where the AC runs low all day collapses within three days for hydrangeas or tulips, and even roses get pulled down by the dry air. What dies first in those villas is not the heat, it is the dry air pulling moisture out through large petals. Hydrangeas lose it faster with every degree above 21°C. Carnations, with their waxy cuticle, barely register the rise. Chrysanthemums give you ten days. In our experience on aged care runs, the florist who picks the box format and the heat-tolerant stems gets the thank-you call. The one who sends the Sydney-safe bouquet gets the callback.

How Flower Delivery Works in Condon

Your order hits the system and we route it to a florist covering the 4815 postcode. Most days the run starts in Kirwan or Aitkenvale. The van drives west out Riverway Drive, past Thuringowa Central, into Condon. That is roughly 25 to 30 minutes from build to the first drop on Beck Drive. Most of Condon gets delivered before the afternoon heat peaks.

What to Send to Condon

The products above are the what. This section is the how, because the Upper Ross runs differently from most of Townsville. Sympathy orders here split three ways between First Nations tradition, Italian Catholic custom, and secular home delivery, and aged care shapes almost every other order on this postcode. If a milestone birthday or a condolence is what prompted the visit, the routing matters as much as the stems.

Sympathy to Condon: First Nations, Italian Catholic, or Home

Someone in Condon has died, or someone connected to Condon has, and you are sending flowers from a distance. The first decision is where the flowers go. Condolences to a grieving family at a home address on Kaoriki Court or anywhere in the suburb go direct, ideally within three days of notification. Service flowers go to the funeral director with the deceased's name and the service date and time. The three main funeral homes covering Upper Ross families are Fitzgerald's at Hyde Park, Morleys at West End, and Townsville Funerals at Railway Estate. Graveside flowers mostly go to Belgian Gardens Cemetery.

Keep the card message short. One line. "Thinking of you and your family" does the job. Do not frame the loss as a positive.

Anna, on sympathy orders to Condon specifically

Condon has the strongest First Nations sympathy context in the Townsville cluster. 13.4% of the suburb identifies as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and the Shalom Elders Village and the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress sit a block apart on Hervey Range Road. I took the call from dozens of senders who did not know what to ask. The rule is always the same. Check with the family or the funeral director first. When natives are welcome, a banksia-and-waratah arrangement reads correctly in a way that a dozen red roses never will, and in our experience some Townsville funeral homes have documented experience with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander protocols, Fitzgerald's at Hyde Park usually being the first call for cultural coordination. For Italian Catholic families, chrysanthemums are the expected funeral flower. Never send them as a non-funeral gift to an Italian home, the association is wrong. White lilies work as a universal safe default when the family's tradition is unclear, which is both the least and the most you can do from where you are.

Thinking of You at Carlyle Gardens or Shalom Elders

The parent at Carlyle Gardens or Shalom Elders is seeing the family when the family can get there, which is not every week. Flowers are not a visit. They are also not nothing. Most Condon Thinking of You orders go to one of two places. Carlyle Gardens on Beck Drive is a large retirement village, reception-delivered, villa number required on the order notes or the flowers sit at the front desk until staff can trace the resident. Shalom Elders Village on Hervey Range Road is a 28-bed First Nations aged care facility, single reception, small deliveries are personal and the staff know the resident. For freehold houses on Beck Drive or nearby streets, direct delivery during the morning window. A short card message connected to something real carries weight: "Happy 80th, Mum. The garden must be a mess this time of year." Families who order from interstate to aged care at Carlyle Gardens or Shalom Elders tend to worry about two things: will it arrive, and will it read right in a room with a bed and a call button. The answer to both is in the format.

From what our florists have seen, box arrangements outperform bunches in aged care every time. No vase work for the nursing staff, no water maintenance for a resident with limited mobility, small footprint beside the medical kit. For Shalom Elders specifically, a box of banksia, eucalyptus and waxflower reads as Country. For Carlyle Gardens, a soft pink rose-and-carnation box like the one above holds ten days in a low-AC villa while a hydrangea collapses on day two. Nothing with lily in the name goes to a shared room, the fragrance is too heavy in confined spaces and the pollen stains the bedding. A milestone Thinking of You order on a 70th, 80th, 90th, or 100th birthday at the village is the most common thing we field for this postcode.

Milestone Birthdays at Carlyle Gardens

The 80th or the 90th is at the village on a Saturday and you are not going to be in Condon for it. You wanted to be at the morning tea. Sending flowers is the thing you can do from here. Both of those are true. 11.5% of Condon is aged 75 or over, more than double the Queensland average, and the 70th/80th/90th/100th run is a regular pattern from Carlyle Gardens. The village hosts milestone morning teas and the reception receives dozens of arrangements on those days. Order by Friday for a Saturday delivery, because the Saturday 10am cutoff applies on weekend milestones and the Carlyle Gardens reception runs a narrower window at weekends. For a birthday delivery to a freehold house on Beck Drive or elsewhere in Condon, nobody-home logistics matter. Front porches facing east or north heat up fast in February, so the driver's default on non-AC addresses is the back verandah or a neighbour drop, not the front doorstep. A short card message like "Happy 80th, Nan. Wish we could be there for the morning tea" lands better than a long paragraph.

Anna: Most people default to roses for a milestone birthday at the village, and the roses give four good days in a February villa. A bright mixed bunch like the lead product above gives seven to ten, because the statice and the foliage outlast the roses by a full week. For a 90th at Carlyle Gardens where the resident has been there a decade and has seen every stem in the catalogue come through reception, I would steer toward the native arrangement option for something recognisable as Country rather than catalogue. The resident notices.

Send a Florist's Choice to Condon
Not Sure What to Send?

None of the above quite matched. That is fine. You do not need to know the exact occasion to send flowers to Condon. Pick any of the four products above, they were chosen because they cover the widest range of reasons people send flowers to this suburb, from milestone birthdays at Carlyle Gardens to a sympathy order to a service at Fitzgerald's. If the recipient is in aged care, go with one of the three arrangements, the box format is the reason. If you would rather not choose, a Florist's Choice bunch means the florist builds from what came strong off the truck that morning and matches the tone to the occasion note.

Ivy's state netball brought us to Townsville in June 2023. Four days, a unit in North Ward, Murray Sporting Complex at Annandale. Annandale is east of the CBD. Condon is west. I did not drive the Upper Ross that trip, but I drove enough that week to know what the 25 to 30 minute Condon run from the inner ring actually looks like on a weekday morning. The florist who covers this postcode starts earlier than the ones closer in.

Same Day Cutoff

2pm weekdays, 10am Saturdays. No Sunday delivery. The Upper Ross is one of the longer same-day runs in the Townsville network, so orders closer to the noon mark give the florist better daylight for aged care reception windows. Sunday orders queue for Monday morning.

Delivery $16.95

Flat rate, subsidised. The Condon run is ~25-30 minutes from the inner-ring florist, further than most Townsville suburbs. Some networks charge a distance weighting for postcodes past Thuringowa. We do not.

Aged Care Reception Windows in the Upper Ross

Carlyle Gardens and Shalom Elders Village both receive deliveries through reception, not to individual villas or rooms. Reception accepts deliveries through business hours but rarely after 4pm. Orders placed between 1pm and 2pm on the same-day weekday cutoff land in the final afternoon run, which is the risk window for the 4pm aged care reception cut. The safer pattern for Upper Ross aged care is ordering before 1pm. Order before 1pm for an aged care reception window in Condon this afternoon.

"Anniversary Flowers. Excellent service, floral arrangement was fresh and still going strong after 5 days, much better than previous florists I have used. Delivery was as expected. Would definitely recommend Lily's Florist."

Order This Arrangement

Anthony's review is a Florists Choice arrangement review with the detail that matters most for an Upper Ross delivery: five days in, still fresh, better than a previous supplier. In a Condon February or December villa, a rose-forward bunch would not clear five days. The arrangement format did, because the foam holds water and the stem mix carries the fade sequence.

Anna on the Florists Choice Bright Mixed Arrangement and what Anthony actually got

The Bright Mixed Arrangement is a mirrored silver cube built around hot pink roses, yellow tulips or seasonal substitutes, purple statice, and green trick dianthus. The statice and the green trick are the five-day-and-beyond insurance. They are pre-dried on the plant, the colour holds after the roses start softening, and the dome profile stays full even as the tulips drop. What Anthony probably saw on day five was the roses at fully-open, the tulips gone or pulled, and the statice and foliage still presenting. For an anniversary, the arrangement format also means the recipient did not have to find a vase or trim stems. The box arrives complete. The photo on the site shows the arrangement at a good stage, not tight buds and not blown. What Anthony received was probably slightly different in stem mix from the photo, and that is the point of the Florists Choice label: the florist builds from what came strong that morning rather than forcing a photo match from inferior stock. In my experience on the bench, that fade sequence is the reason an arrangement customer gets five good days where a bunch customer usually gets three. One constructive counterpoint from the wider review set worth naming: not every Bright Mixed delivery lands as described. In March last year a customer named Jackie logged a bunch that "was not what was believed, a very small bouquet." Standard Florists Choice at the base price runs eight to twelve stems plus foliage. Deluxe and Premium sizes carry more focal flowers. The size picture on the site is the Standard size, the upsize adds visible volume. If the gesture needs to read as generous on arrival, the Deluxe is the safer pick for Condon.

After You Order

Once the order confirms, the system sends it through to a partner florist in or near Condon. In practice that is a florist working the inner ring of Townsville, usually Kirwan or Aitkenvale, sometimes Pimlico, running the Upper Ross as the westmost drop of the day. They build the arrangement from what came strong off the Rocklea truck that morning. For a Carlyle Gardens or Shalom Elders reception drop, they call ahead so the desk knows the villa number or resident name before the driver is on Beck Drive.

If something arrives wrong or the delivery does not land, phone 1300 360 469 or email [email protected] the same day. I ring the florist directly and call back with a status. Most issues come down to a villa number that was not on the order notes, a reception window that was tighter than the cutoff allowed, or a wet-season storm that turned a 25-minute Upper Ross run into an hour. All three are fixable if we hear about them early.

Siobhan on what happens at the other end

The bit after you click order is the bit most senders worry about, and I understand why. You cannot see the arrangement. You do not know the florist. The person you sent the flowers to is in a villa in Condon or at reception at Shalom Elders and they are not on their phone the minute the driver leaves. Give it a day, sometimes two. A resident at Carlyle Gardens might not get to the reception foyer until after the morning tea run, and someone at Shalom Elders might mention the flowers to a family member before they think to call you. The quiet is rarely because something went wrong. It is usually because an eighty-year-old is working through the card and the arrangement at her own pace, and the thank-you comes when it comes.

Our first Townsville partner was Peg at Silver Wattle Florist back around 2008, which is how we first learned the Upper Ross was its own patch with its own reception windows. The longer version of that history is on the Townsville flower delivery page if you want it. For Condon specifically, the work runs the same way it has for nearly two decades. A florist near the postcode, a morning build, a Riverway Drive run, and a driver who knows which gate at Carlyle Gardens opens for deliveries, which one is residents-only, and which Condon streets take standing water in a wet season. In 2019 the Ross River Dam released at 1,900 cumecs and the low-lying parts of the suburb went under. Wet-season routing remembers that.

Co-founder, Lily's Florist

Siobhan and I started Lily's Florist out of the flower shop we bought in Kingscliff in 2006. The network launched in 2009 and the Townsville partners came on not long after that. Our first was Peg at Silver Wattle, and the early Upper Ross deliveries taught us that aged care reception windows and the 4pm cut-off were their own operational problem, separate from every other suburb in the cluster. Seventeen years on the aged care side of the phones has not changed that.

For Condon specifically, I do not have a personal connection the way I do to Sydney's inner west where I grew up. I have been to Townsville for Ivy's state netball in June 2023, but that trip ran east and north, not out to the Upper Ross. What I have is seventeen years of running the network that covers the 4815 postcode, and a clear picture of what the Carlyle Gardens reception staff need on a delivery note. That seems to be the more useful thing for a flower order. If you would like the longer version, it is on our About Us page.
