Back in 2006, sitting in our tiny Drummoyne apartment with morning sickness kicking in hard, we made a decision that would change everything. We were both grinding away in Sydney, baby on the way, when we thought there has to be something more than this endless cycle of traffic and concrete.

After narrowing down 30 locations to just 5, we spent a week checking out Byron Bay, Ballina, Bangalow, the Gold Coast, and this place called Kingscliff we'd never even been to. Then we drove across that old rickety timber bridge into Kingscliff at high tide, Cudgen Creek looking like something out of Fiji, and we were done. Found a florist shop for sale on Marine Parade, ignored our accountant's advice to not buy it, and jumped in with both feet.

That baby I was carrying? She's now 18. She took her first crawling steps in that shop, usually covered in sweat because we couldn't afford air conditioning. But here's how that little flower shop in Kingscliff ended up delivering flowers all the way to Bacchus Marsh in Victoria.
