On a holiday address, the street number goes in the notes. Pick from our hand-selected range of flowers below, or ring us and one of our friendly Australian-based team will sort it with you.

A beach house has a kettle, eight mismatched glasses and nothing to put flowers in

Anna, qualified florist | I built for the bench it would sit on, not the photograph

Fifteen years on the bench taught me to ask what the room looked like first. A house opened for a long weekend has no vase in it. A paper-wrapped bunch goes in the sink with the plug in. For a holiday address I built standing up: a box, water already in, stems cut low.

The sink is the worst of both worlds, too wide to hold a stem up and never clean. A leaf below the water line rots within a day, the rot breeds bacteria, and the bacteria block the stem. By day three the heads are down with the bowl still full.

Three Kinds of Address, and What Each One Needs

Pick the door, and here is what goes in the notes

Three doors, three different orders.

The streets fall away from the ridge, so the front door is often up a flight of steps while the family comes and goes through the carport underneath. Name the door they use, and in summer ask for shade.

Choose a bunch

On Census night in 2021, 582 of Avoca Beach's 2,210 dwellings stood empty. If the address is one of them, the notes need the street number, the surname the booking sits under and a mobile.

Choose a just because bunch

Deliveries stop at the main reception desk on Holden Street, not the bedside. Put the patient's full name and the ward in the notes. On maternity that is the mother's name, never the baby's.

Choose hospital flowers

The notes field is the cheapest part of the order and the part that decides where it lands.

Sort the Address Before You Sort the Flowers

Most flowers going into Avoca Beach are ordered from somewhere else. The kids who grew up here live in Sydney now, and plenty of what they send home is a thinking of you order.

The birthday is today and she is up at the beach house

You have the day right and the address only half right. Home, or the house she is staying in?

We have watched enough of these land at the wrong gate to know a street name will not do. Most bunches for mum here come from Sydney.

Anna on where not to put them

A bench loaded with a week of fruit is the last place flowers should sit. Ripening fruit reads as the signal to finish and carnations curl closed days early.

A weekend anniversary wants a Saturday morning order

Couples who keep a place here drive up Friday evening after work, the one time a Friday delivery finds the house dark. Saturday orders close at 10am.

Dinner at the surf club on Vine Street needs a name in the notes. Anniversary arrangements and roses both suit it.

Anna's call: roses bought at the right stage open on the table instead of sitting shut. Look for the green sepals under the bud folded back to about ninety degrees.

Every Central Coast birth now goes to Gosford

The baby has arrived and you are ninety minutes down the M1. Flowers are a celebration and a measure of the distance at once.

Since March 2025 the Coast has one place to give birth, and it is Gosford Hospital. Flowers stop at reception in our experience, a clerk carries them up, and maternity keeps a quiet time from 1pm to 3pm.

Half that table is a jug, so the new baby range comes boxed. Card: "Wishing you all the sleep you can get."

Still not sure what to send?

Plenty of our Avoca Beach orders fit none of the headings above. Anna has a view on what suits a deck up here.

The streets out toward Cape Three Points catch the wind off the water and it does not let up. Build the outside of an arrangement from gum, leucadendron and banksia and those woody stems take the weather, sheltering the soft flowers inside. A native mix is what I would send up there.

Other things people send up here

Order before 2pm today and it is at their door this afternoon.

Cut-offs, the Notes Field and the Avoca Beach Door

Cut-off times

2pm on a weekday, because the run leaves while there is still someone on the bench to build it.
10am on Saturday, the short day at both ends.
No Sunday delivery, except Mother's Day.

What the notes need

Say where it is going: a house, a function room, a ward. If it is not a front door, name who will take it.

Who takes delivery

Two roads come into Avoca Beach and neither carries on anywhere else, so a driver who finds an empty house cannot swing back. Order this morning and it goes out on today's run.

If the Flowers Land and Nobody Rings You

An order number comes by email, and the job sits with a florist close to Avoca Beach.

If the person you sent to does not ring, that is normal, and it was what I reassured people about most. If something is wrong, ring 1300 360 469 between 7am and 6pm on a weekday, or email [email protected].

Andrew, on the ones that come back to us

Siobhan and I ran the deliveries ourselves from 2006 to 2009, out of the Kingscliff shop: hospitals, funeral homes, cemeteries, retirement villages, front doors. You learn which door a house uses by standing at the wrong one. Nearly every Avoca Beach order that has come back to us as a problem has been an address problem, not a flower problem. A rental booked under somebody else's surname. A house empty Monday to Friday and full from Friday night.

My side of this business was always the phone rather than the map. Andrew and I took the inbound calls ourselves from 2006 until 2013, and 2013 is the year Avoca Beach orders started coming through.

The Kingscliff shop came first and the network three years later. There is more about the two of us on about Lily's Florist.
