Same Day Flower Delivery Barron, Farmhouses Included

We deliver flowers to Barron today, farm addresses included. Anything ordered before 2pm on a weekday goes out this afternoon, and after that you simply pick the delivery day at checkout. We've been sending flowers around Cairns since 2007, so a cane farm with the number on a letterbox is nothing unusual. Pick from our same-day flowers below and buy online in a couple of minutes, or call us and our friendly Australian team will do it with you.

What Travels Best to a Barron Farm When the Wet Season Is On

Anna, qualified florist | trained in North Carolina, then a few wet summers at Salt in Kingscliff

If you are sending to a farm between November and April, pick a box arrangement or a bunch that comes with its own vase. Wet tissue goes see-through and sticks to the petals like cling wrap, and kraft paper soaks and tears at the fold, all in the walk from the car to the verandah. I learned how fast paper gives up at Salt in Kingscliff, and those summers were gentler than a Barron February.

A box skips all of that, with the water already sitting in the foam. The risk you cannot see is damp petals shut in a warm car or a plastic sleeve: they grow botrytis, which is grey mould, and by morning the roses show fuzzy grey patches. Whatever arrives, get it out of the sleeve and into moving air.

Birthdays, Ward Beds and the Family Kitchen After a Funeral

Sixty-eight people lived in Barron at the 2021 census, so most people ordering flowers into the suburb live somewhere else. Now and then it is a thank-you for the neighbour who fed the dogs.

Mum's Birthday Bunch Has to Find the Farmhouse First

You know every turn of that farm. The florist has never seen it. I learned what that costs on Duranbah Road in the winter of 2007, a birthday bunch on the passenger seat and the number from the order painted on a letterbox. The house was somewhere behind the cane. Two wrong tracks, one harvester, a long reverse. By the time I found the gate, a neighbour had already rung the house to say a car full of flowers was lost in the cane.

So put the property name, the gate and her mobile in the notes, then choose from our birthday flowers for Mum. Anna's pick: size it for the vase they actually own. Flowers want to stand about one and a half times the height of the vase, so a big hand-tied bunch needs a big one, and without it the stems splay and flop over the rim.

In Cairns Hospital, or Home Recovering on the Farm?

You have a ward number off a text, or no ward at all. For Cairns Hospital or Cairns Private the full name does the finding: in our experience hospital flowers go to ward reception and staff carry them in, which is how it worked when Siobhan and I were carrying flowers into Tweed Hospital between 2006 and 2009. Add their phone number in case they have been sent home. If they are already back on the farm, order it like any other farm delivery. "Thinking of you. Home soon." is plenty.

A shared ward is no place for strong perfume. Asiatic lilies give the lily look without the scent, and a box saves anyone hunting for a vase. The get well range has boxed options.

Send Sympathy to the House a Few Days After the Service

A farming family has lost someone and the kitchen is full of neighbours for a week. Flowers for the service go to the funeral home, addressed to the person who has died. For the house, send sympathy flowers for the home a few days later, to the family surname and property name, once the visitors thin out. Flowers are a small thing against what has happened, and they still end up in the middle of the table. "Thinking of you all." is enough.

Anna, on what holds in a warm house

Chrysanthemums. In a farmhouse without air conditioning they hold, in my experience, ten days or more at twenty-eight degrees, and whites with plenty of green sit quietly in a room full of people. The sympathy range has them.

When No Heading Fits, Start With Australian Natives

Lots of orders fit no heading, and you need none to send flowers.

Go with Australian natives. A protea head is close to indestructible, leucadendron can go a fortnight in a Barron summer with no air conditioning, and banksia dries on the shelf after the rest has finished. Split the woody stems at the base so they drink.

More ways to choose

In before 2pm today and it can be on the farmhouse table this afternoon.

Send Birthday Flowers Today

Cutoffs, Driveways and Who Takes It In

When it goes

2pm weekdays, so our partner florist in Cairns can build it and get it out the same day.
10am Saturday, when rosters are shorter.
No Sunday delivery, except Mother's Day.

What the notes need

Property name, gate and the track to the house, plus the recipient's mobile. If a road near the river is under water, the driver waits it out and we ring you.

Who takes it

Whoever is home takes it, and on a farm that is often at the back door. If nobody is, the florist tends to look for shade on the verandah. In before 2pm, out the gate this afternoon.

If the Phone Stays Quiet After It Lands

A confirmation email arrives when the order goes through. To check or change it, ring 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays, or email [email protected]. If something is wrong, a photo the same day lets us sort it with the florist.

Siobhan, on the silence from a farm in harvest

Don't read anything into the quiet. In harvest a cane farm day runs from before light to after dark, so the flowers can sit on the bench for hours before anyone sees them (then it's dinner, then bed). The call usually comes the next day. A complaint I heard often enough on the phones, back before Ivy, was flowers left on a hot step with nobody home. That's why we ask for the mobile.

The flowers are the easy part. The driveway is the bit we need from you.

Siobhan and I bought a flower shop on Marine Parade in Kingscliff in 2006 and launched Lily's Florist in 2009, with Cairns among our first eight partner florists.

On family holidays up there, the drive from Cairns Airport to Palm Cove crosses the Barron River with the cane on the left. I have never turned off onto Lower Freshwater Road. The rest is on our about Lily's Florist page.
