My name is Siobhan. I run Lily's Florist with my partner Andrew from Kingscliff on the far north coast of NSW. Andrew and the Illawarra

Dave studied computer science at University of Wollongong. Andrew was down visiting all the time. Crashing on Dave's floor, surviving on two minute noodles, the usual uni life when you're twenty something.

The coastal drive south from Wollongong became familiar. Shellharbour, Kiama, that dramatic run where the escarpment drops almost to the water. Bombo sits right on that stretch. The rock platform at the headland with the old quarry behind it, that moody South Coast light when the weather turns.

Andrew remembers stopping there once on the drive back to Sydney after Dave's exams. Cold wind, the ocean wild and grey, both of them standing on the headland not saying much. That particular quiet you get in your early twenties when the future feels like fog.

"Gerberas look easy but they're one of the trickier flowers to get right," she says. "The stems are hollow. That's why you see neck droop after a day or two, the stem collapses and the head flops over. Our florists wire the inside of the stem for structure. Takes an extra minute per flower but you're looking at the difference between three days and eight days in the vase."
