Flower Delivery Bribie Island North Today, Canal or Villa

The north end of Bribie Island gets same-day flowers on any weekday order in before 2pm. Lily's Florist sends it to our partner florist in Bongaree, who makes the flowers that morning on the island side of the bridge. North of Banksia Beach and White Patch the island is national park, so a house up that end will be in one of those two suburbs. Some directories list the Bongaree villages as Bribie Island North too, so for Bolton Clarke's Bribie Cove on Goodwin Drive, write villa or care home in the notes and the florist finds the right door. Pick from our hand-selected range below and buy online, or call us and one of our friendly, helpful, Australian-based team will sort it with you.

On the passage side of Bribie, the late sun is harder on colour than the heat is

Anna, qualified florist | on what west sun does to a red

People worry about the Queensland heat. On the passage side of the island, what shows first on a bunch is the light. Houses along the water tend to face west, often through a wall of glass, and afternoon sun breaks down the pigments that make reds and purples, so a red rose on a sunny table goes dusky pink in about two days. I learned it from a bucket of reds left by a sunny workroom door over a long weekend. They went in red and came out pink.

Yellows and oranges hold. Their colour comes from a tougher pigment that barely shifts in bright light. Reds do beautifully too, with one bit of care: put them one room back from the glass, out of the direct sun, and they keep their colour for the week.

Birthdays, Condolences and Welcome-to-the-Island Flowers

This end of the island is canal houses and holiday houses, with the retirement villages a short run south, so the orders tend to be milestone birthdays, sympathy, and congratulations for people who have just sold up. Our mixed flowers cover more of that than you would expect.

If the Party Is Out the Back on the Canal

A 70th birthday up this end often means family flying in and a long table set up facing the water. In Banksia Beach the canal houses face the canal, so the living happens out the back and the front door is the quiet side. Put a mobile in the notes.

I found that out around 2008 with a 70th birthday bunch for a canal house in Mermaid Waters, on the Gold Coast. Right street, right number. I knocked and rang the bell for five minutes, then started writing a note for the letterbox, and heard a cheer from somewhere behind the house. All twenty of them were out on the pontoon. I had been knocking on the back of the party. The birthday girl took the flowers over the side gate and asked if I had come by boat.

Anna's pick: something low and wide. A tall vase on an outdoor table catches every gust off the water and goes over, usually into the salad. Low and wide sits still, and nobody has to talk around it. The best-selling birthday bunches are an easy place to start.

Send Sympathy to the Villa, the Week After the Service

Someone on the island has lost a husband or a wife, and you are a long way from the funeral. Plenty of the sympathy flowers that go to Bribie are sent to the home in the days after the service, once the family has flown home. Put the village name and the villa number in the notes. In our experience, if nobody answers, the village office points the florist to the right door. Flowers do nothing about a funeral you could not get to. They still end up on the kitchen bench, and the card gets kept. On it, "Thinking of you this week" or "No need to reply to this" is plenty.

Anna, on colour for a house that is grieving

Whites, creams and soft greens. Bright reads wrong in that room, however kindly it was meant. White roses with a bit of eucalyptus were the combination I put together most for a house after a funeral: the gum drinks slowly and outlasts the roses by days, so there is still something green in the vase at the end of the second week. The white sympathy range is where to find it.

Parents Who Have Just Sold Up and Moved Here

Bribie is where a lot of people go once they finally sell the family house. Siobhan and I did our own version in 2006, Drummoyne to Kingscliff with a baby on the way, so I know what the first fortnight looks like: boxes, no idea where the scissors are, and phone calls from people who think you have lost your mind. Congratulations flowers land well in that fortnight.

Moving week is when an arrangement beats a bunch every time. An arrangement is built into wet floral foam, a green block that holds water like a sponge, so it drinks from the minute it is set down on whatever bit of bench is clear. A bunch in its water pack holds for a day. After that the pack runs low, air gets into the cut ends and the heads start to droop while the vase is still in a box somewhere.

No Occasion on the Calendar? Good.

Plenty of orders don't fit a heading: the neighbour who fed the cat while they were away, the old workmate you have not rung in a year. Anna had a colour for these.

Orange. It is cheerful without shouting, it reads as neither romance nor sympathy, and on Bribie it keeps its colour even on a sunny windowsill facing the passage. Start with the orange flowers and you will not be wrong.

In before 2pm on a weekday and it can be on Bribie this afternoon.

Birthday Flowers, Made Today

Two Cutoffs, One Mobile Number

Cutoffs

2pm weekdays for same day, which gives the florist the rest of the day to build the order and drive it round the island.
10am Saturday, because Saturday is a short trading day for florists.
No Sunday delivery, except Mother's Day.
After the cutoff, pick any later day at checkout.

What the notes need

The real suburb on the address: Banksia Beach, White Patch, Bellara, Bongaree or Woorim. For a village, its name and the villa number, or the wing if it is a care home. A mobile for any canal house, where the party is often down by the canal.

Who takes it

Whoever answers, or a neighbour you name. From what our florists have seen, a village office, where there is one, will usually take flowers and ring the resident. Order this morning and the florist has the whole day to find them.

The Rest Is Ours to Worry About

The order goes straight to our partner florist in Bongaree. They build it on the delivery morning, drive it round, and hand it over. If nobody is home, the florist rings the mobile in the notes. That is what the mobile is for.

To check it landed, ring 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays and from 10am Saturday. To change the card or the address, email [email protected]. If anything is wrong at the door, send us a photo the same day.

Siobhan, on the thank-you call that takes a while

People on Bribie are out a lot (the boat, bowls, the beach with the dog), so the thank-you call can take a day or two, and it is not the flowers, I promise. Back in the shop years I took the "has it arrived?" calls all day, and nearly every time it had, and the person was at lunch. Once in a while a bunch did come back undelivered, usually a holiday address with no mobile on the order, which is why Andrew goes on about it. Annoying when you are the one waiting for the call. Also, the boat and the beach are the whole reason they moved to Bribie.

Most days none of that comes up. It is a knock, a villa door, and a card with your name on it.

Co-founder, Lily's Florist

Andrew and Siobhan bought a small flower and gift shop on Marine Parade in Kingscliff in 2006 and launched Lily's Florist in 2009. Between them they delivered thousands of bouquets across the Tweed, the Gold Coast and Byron in the shop years, and took the inbound calls themselves until 2013.

He still runs the network from Kingscliff, now more than eight hundred partner florists. The whole story, soaps and fax machine included, is on about Lily's Florist.
