Discover Mysterton

Mysterton is largely residential, and is positioned between the suburbs of Mundingburra, Pimlico, Hermit Park and Hyde Park. The populace from the 2011 Census, gave Mysterton 834 inhabitants, and is approximately four kilometres southwest of Townsville’s CBD. 

The name of Mysterton resulted from the residence of Arminius Danner, located in the St Johns Wood Estate sector during the 1880s. During the 1920s, the region was again subdivided and recognised as the Mysterton Estate.

Mindham Park is within the region of Mysterton, which is also in close proximity to sports centres, other parks, recreation areas and shopping centres. These include the Townsville Golf Club, Anderson Park, Showground, John Herbert Sports Complex, Greyhound Track, Botanical Gardens, Castletown and Hyde Park Shopping Centres. 

During World War II, one of the effects during the war effort was that many buildings, including schools, cinemas, hotels, and other businesses as well as private residences, were requisitioned for use by the military. In Chapman Street Mysterton, 30 houses were summoned by the United States Army for use as the 12th Station Hospital. The residents were allowed approximately one week to vacate their homes.
