How Did We End Up With a Taree Partner Network?

Well, it's kind of a long story, to read the long story about how we evolved you can click here, but in short, my partner and I bought a florist and gift shop in 2007 in Northern NSW. Our initial goal, as we were not florists, was to scale back the flower side of the business, and expand the gifting side of the shop - which we did, even though my partner was 8 months pregnant! A 'battle' would be an understatement to describe the challenges we faced.

During the flower scaling back stage, we were quite surprised to be still getting over 40+ calls a day for flowers. Oddly, the majority of them for locations outside out area. For those who don't know, this was typically how people sent flowers to other locations before online shopping. To be honest, initially, after a while, the calls started to frustrate us as they took up so much time but there was nothing we could do about them. Not long after we discovered that the previous owner of the florist shop had taken out a Yellow Pages advertisement, yeah you know, in the book! We had chuckle to ourselves upon this realisation but the seed (pun intended) had been planted.

We decided to scale flowers back up. We found a florist in our home town, and asked her if she would make the bouquets from her home as we had no room in the store, she agreed and we started sending flowers to the local area where we live - and still live after all this time. I know I promised the short story, but without the context it's a little hard, so excuse me for getting carried away.

Okay, well now the local flower order issue was solved, but we still had at least 20 other call to deal with a day, rather than just turning them away, so in 2008 we started to take their orders over the phone, you know like writing them down on an A4 pad, then using the Yellow Pages :) to find florists in the town they were sending to. Taree was one of the more common requests to send flowers to so one day we called Pauline and Tina from Daralea Florist & Garden Shop. We chose Taree as one of our first partner areas not just because it was a fairly common request, but because my partner was born and bread there, so it just made sense. On calling Pauline and Tina we told them who we were, what we do and what we planned, they were really enthusiastic and were on board. Every order we got for Taree would go to them and they would fulfill it for us. Not too long after that, we built the very page you are on right now and almost every order since then has gone to Pauline and Tina. In fact, over the last 17 years we have visited them in Taree a few times. On one such visit, I recall them saying never, in their entire business lives had they never completely sold out of flowers on Mother's Day and, thanks to us, they had done so.

So that, Taree NSW become one of our flagship delivery areas and Lily's Florist was born out of that not long after.
