Same Day Delivery - Tallebudgera Wide
You know that awkward moment when the Emergency Department staff at John Flynn Hospital greet you by name? Yeah, that's us. "Hi Siobhan, what's broken this time?" has become a bit of a running joke over the last 4 years. Between Asha and Ivy's netball adventures, we've racked up quite the collection of hospital visits - broken fingers, buckle fractures on wrists, and one memorable broken toe. Who knew netball could be such a contact sport, right?
It's funny how life comes full circle though. Back in 2007, sitting in our little Kingscliff flower shop with baby Asha crawling around, we got this call from a lady in Bogangar. Her brother had just been admitted to John Flynn Hospital after a workplace accident, and she desperately wanted to send flowers. We had to tell her sorry, we couldn't help - Tugun was outside our delivery area. That phone call stuck with me. Fast forward to now, and here we are, not only delivering flowers to John Flynn regularly but practically on first-name basis with half the staff there. Life has a weird sense of humour sometimes.

We love Tugun so much that Asha had her 17th birthday party at Tom Atkin Hall last year. The irony wasn't lost on us - Andrew had literally been at John Flynn Hospital the day before with a grade 3 ankle sprain from mixed netball at Mudgeeraba...ahh hello Andrew, not you, surely. There he was, hobbling around on crutches trying to help set up streamers and fairy lights, then acting like a tough doorman, while I'm trying not to laugh at the absolute comedy of it all. One day in Emergency, next day hosting 30 teenagers at the surf club. That's our life in a nutshell.
Andrew's down at Tugun Fruit Market every few weeks, loading up on supplies - absolute legend of a place, that one. Between his fruit runs, birthday parties at the surf club, and our seemingly endless hospital adventures, Tugun's become like a second home. It's this interesting pocket, tucked between the beach and the airport, that often gets overlooked by the bigger companies. But for us, Tugun's always been important.
The thing about Tugun is, it's got its own personality. It's not trying to be Burleigh, it's not trying to be Coolangatta, like uber cool of late. It just is what it is - unpretentious, real, and full of people who appreciate good service without the fluff. Our partner florists down there get it. They know the difference between delivering to those beachfront units on Golden Four Drive versus finding someone tucked away in the streets near the airport. They know parking at John Flynn is a nightmare on Tuesdays, which entrance to use for maternity versus emergency, and they probably recognise our name on flower orders by now - "Oh, another one from the netball family!"

That 2007 phone call haunted us for weeks. Here was this lovely lady, probably stressed out of her mind about her brother, and we had to turn her away. Back then, we were getting maybe 20 calls a week for flower deliveries outside our tiny Kingscliff radius. Tugun, Tweed Heads, Murwillumbah, even random places like Townsville. The phone would ring, and we'd have to say no, sorry, can't help.
The previous owner of our shop had taken out this massive Yellow Pages ad - yeah, the actual book that used to get dumped on your doorstep once a year. That explained all the calls, but it didn't solve our problem. We were turning away business left, right and centre, sitting in a shop some days with $25 in the till, if we were lucky.
One particularly quiet June afternoon in 2008, after turning away our 25th flower delivery request that day, Andrew and I looked at each other across the counter. There had to be something we could do with these calls. That's when we had our moment - what if we found florists in these areas and partnered with them? No fees, no corporate nonsense, just add a few extra flowers to cover a small commission, and we'd send them all the orders.
The first florist we approached was in Murwillumbah, but Tugun and the Southern Gold Coast quickly followed, Tugun Village Florist we picked, all that time ago. These florists were brilliant - they got it immediately. They were getting extra orders without spending on marketing, and we were finally able to help people like that lady from Bogangar.
Here's what bugs me about those some of those big corporate flower companies - they're running warehouses, production lines, sending flowers through Australia Post overnight like they're books or something. That's not us. Never has been, never will be. Our Tugun orders go to actual florists with actual shops, people who've been arranging flowers for decades.
The florists in our network around Tugun and the Greater Gold Coast aren't just names on a spreadsheet, or back then a fax list! They're part of this whole thing we've built from that one shop in Kingscliff. They handle those panic calls from blokes who've forgotten anniversaries, the sad calls for funeral flowers, the happy ones for new babies at John Flynn. They're the ones who know to call the ward first to check if flowers are allowed (some wards don't allow them anymore, learned that one the hard way).
Same-day delivery if you order before 2PM on weekdays - and yes, that includes to John Flynn Hospital, all those apartment complexes along the beachfront, and even those tricky addresses near the airport. We cover all of Tugun, from the beach to Tugun Heights, and we do it properly.
When you ring us, you're not getting a call centre in Manila or Mumbai. You're getting someone in Armidale, usually Rebecca, sometimes one of our other team members who've been with us for years. They know flowers, they know the Gold Coast, and they know how to help when you're stressed about getting flowers somewhere urgently.
We've got over 22,000 reviews on Feefo now - and before you ask, no, it's not my mum writing them. Feefo only lets actual customers who've actually bought flowers leave reviews. We can't delete the bad ones, can't get mates to write fake good ones. It's completely independent, which scared the living daylights out of us when we first signed up, but it's been worth it.

Look, we're just up the road in Kingscliff - practically neighbours by Gold Coast standards. Between Andrew's fruit market runs and our regular hospital visits, we're in Tugun enough to know what locals need. We're not some multinational with a boardroom and a marketing team. We're still that family business, making decisions at the dinner table, trying to do right by people who need flowers delivered.
Whether you're sending get-well flowers to John Flynn (hopefully not for a netball injury), surprising someone in those beachfront apartments, or just brightening someone's day in Tugun Heights, we've got you sorted. Order before 2PM weekdays for same-day delivery, or plan ahead for the weekend.
And if you ever see Andrew at Tugun Fruit Market, say g'day. He'll be the one loading up his car like he's feeding an army - which, with two teenage girls, he basically is.
