A real customer review
"I sent a red rose to my husband for his birthday last Thursday 2nd July.. It is the most beautiful , big rose we have ever seen from a florist. It is now 9 days later and the rose is still beautiful and has not lost a single petal"

Thank you, Edel. Sending a rose to your husband is the part I like most here. Men hardly ever get flowers, so when one turns up for a bloke on his birthday it tends to knock him sideways in a way it wouldn't for anyone else.
Nine days without dropping a petal is the real tell, though. Petal drop is the first thing to go on a rose that has been sitting about, so one still holding after a week and a bit was a young rose, looked after properly on its way out to you. The size follows from the same thing, a good grade of stem rather than a filler.
Arundel is just up the motorway from us here at Kingscliff. Good to hear it is still going. Thanks for the review.

In an Aged-Care Room on Allied Drive, the Box Is the Vase
Nobody in an aged-care room or a hospice bed goes hunting for a vase, and the staff haven't got the spare minutes either. So for anywhere along Allied Drive, send an arrangement. It arrives in its own vase or box with the water already in. The catch is the foam inside. It holds water like a sponge, and after a few days that water goes stale and the stems start rotting from the base. The first tired one I pulled apart at Salt in Kingscliff smelt like a pond.
The fix takes a minute. Draw the old water out with a turkey baster or a sports-drink bottle and squeeze fresh in, every couple of days. Whoever visits on the weekend can do it.
Tap the kind of address. Each one needs something different in the delivery notes.
Put in the notesA mobile number that will answer, and a shaded spot if nobody is home.
Put in the notesThe resident's full name and room number. Flowers go through reception first, then to the room.
Put in the notesWhich hospital, the ward, and the patient's full name. If they are in ICU, wait until they move to a ward.
Put in the notesThe funeral director, the family name and the service time. For a morning service, order the day before.
Four kinds of address on the same afternoon run, and the notes are what get each one there on the first try.
Birthdays come first in Arundel, like everywhere, then get-well flowers to the hospitals and thinking-of-you flowers for the care homes. If it's a birthday, start with our birthday flowers.
You're sending to a man and half wondering if flowers are his thing. In 2008 I carried a birthday bunch into the bar at the old Arundel Hills Country Club for a member's sixtieth. His mates cheered, he went red to the ears, and he asked me to hide it in his car. I didn't. Our birthday flowers for him start with a Single Wrapped Red Rose.
A rose drinks hard on its first day. Fill the vase to the top and keep it out of the afternoon sun.
Someone you love is in Gold Coast University Hospital and all you have is a ward name off a text. That's enough. Put it in the notes with their full name; in our experience the ward staff take the flowers through. Our get-well flowers reach Gold Coast Private Hospital next door the same way. A card that works: "Sorry I can't be there. Get better, then come home."
A bedside table already holds a jug, a phone and the cards. 3 Gerberas In A Vase fits: small, no scent for the next bed, and bright from the door.
Mum has moved into St Vincent's Care or Woodlands Lodge, or someone is spending their last weeks at Hopewell Hospice, and you can't get there this week. Flowers are a small thing next to that, and they still get looked at every day. Send our thinking-of-you flowers with the room number. When the worst happens, sympathy flowers to the family home can follow. A card that works: "Love you. See you Saturday."
Anna's pick: the Gorgeous White Arrangement. It brings its own water and it's gentle on the nose in a shared room.
You don't know their favourite colour and the range above is long. The Australian Natives Bunch has been our bestseller right across Australia since 2013, and it suits a twentieth as well as a ninetieth. Have a look at our native flowers.
Anna has a view on this one. Natives are built for dry air, so an air-conditioned room suits them. Top the water up daily.

A full name, every time. A room number for St Vincent's Care, Woodlands Lodge or Hopewell Hospice. A ward for Gold Coast University Hospital. For a house, a mobile that answers. For a funeral, White Lady or Somerville and the service time.
Reception at the care homes and the hospice, ward staff at the hospital, the office at A.B. Paterson College, and family or a neighbour at a house. In before the cutoff, in Arundel this afternoon.
You get an email confirming the order. It goes to one of our partner florists near Arundel, who builds it that day and delivers it. To change anything, email [email protected] or ring 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays and from 10am Saturday. If it turns up wrong, send us a photo that day and it gets fixed.
If you've heard nothing by tea time, that's normal (an eighty-year-old at Woodlands Lodge isn't emailing you a thank-you, she's showing the nurses). The orders that come unstuck here are nearly always the ones with a street address and no room number, sitting at a front desk while someone works out who Mum is. I took thousands of calls in the shop years, before Ivy came along in 2011, and that one never changed. The room number. That's it.
