Flowers to Freshwater in Cairns, today: any weekday order in before 2pm arrives this afternoon, or choose a later day at checkout. We've delivered across Cairns since 2007, when it was one of our ten busiest areas. For a funeral at Sacred Heart on Duffy Street, add the funeral director's name. Pick the Bright Arrangement With Chocolates for a birthday, or browse the Birthdays, Sympathy and Bestsellers tabs below, and pay securely online. Or call us, and one of our friendly, Australian-based team will choose it and write the card with you.
For a busy Freshwater house, send natives: they look after themselves
If the person you're sending to won't be fussing over a vase, I'd steer you to native flowers in an arrangement, like our Australian Native Arrangement. Foam dries from the top down, so a cup of water over it every second day does the job. In a warm room, in my experience, expect ten days or more from the leucadendrons, the dark red cones, then let them dry in an empty vase. They keep their colour for months.
The one that throws people is the protea. In foam or a vase it drinks harder than anything else in the bucket and can empty a vase in a few days, so keep it topped up. Its leaves can also go black, which looks like the end and isn't: the flower head is pulling sugar out of them, and the head itself barely changes. I binned a whole bucket of proteas once before anyone told me.
Birthdays, funerals and thank-yous are the usual reasons people send flowers into Freshwater. Two things can trip those orders up: a third of homes are units (2021 census), so the unit number matters, and plenty of locals work in hospitals, often on shifts, so the knock can come mid-sleep. A unit number in the notes fixes the first, and flower arrangements that need no vase make the second easier.
The birthday is today and you can't be there, so the flowers go first. For a unit block, put the unit number, the street number and a mobile in the notes; in our experience a knock that goes unanswered then gets a phone call instead of a guess.
Anna's call: the Florist's Choice Birthday Arrangement With Chocolates, or our 50th birthday flowers for a big one. The arrangement stands on the bench without a vase, and nobody sends the chocolates back.
The notice says Sacred Heart on Duffy Street, or a funeral home in Cairns, and you're a long way away. Flowers for the service, or sympathy flowers for the home afterwards: both are right. For the service we need the funeral director's name and the time, because in our experience they place the flowers before the family arrives. I learnt that at St Augustine's in Coolangatta in 2007, the day I parked our car behind the hearse. The director took the sheath with one hand and waved me on with the other, very kindly. On the card, "Thinking of you all, with love" is enough.
A sheath is a long funeral bouquet built to lie flat, so the White Lily & Rose Sheath sits on a casket with no stand. White and green suit a church. Keep the colour for the house.
Your sister has done a fortnight of nights at the hospital, or a friend covered your shifts and won't take a cent. Send a thank you or a thinking of you, and write "works nights, please don't knock, fine to leave it in the shade" in the notes. On the card: "No reply needed. Sleep first."
Natives Flowers With A Vase brings its own vase, so there's no hunting for one at 3pm, half asleep. Natives don't mind a warm, shut-up house either.
Plenty of orders have no occasion at all: a neighbour who fed the cat, a mate you haven't rung since Easter. I asked Anna what she'd send with nothing to go on.
The Blue Mist Arrangement. Soft blue reads as calm at thirty or eighty, it suits a good week or a bad one, and it needs no vase. For a bunch instead, see our blue flowers.

Unit and street number, plus a mobile. For Sacred Heart, the funeral director and the service time. For a night-shift worker, where to leave it.
A house: whoever answers, or a shady spot you name. A unit: whoever is behind that door. A funeral: in our experience, the director. In before 2pm, there this afternoon.
A confirmation email arrives when the order goes through, and same-day orders go out that afternoon. To check on it or change a detail, ring 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays and Saturday mornings, or email [email protected]. If it turns up wrong, send a photo that day and we sort it.
People don't always ring straight back. After a week of nights they're asleep, after a funeral they're with family, and either way it's normal (it took me a couple of years on the phones to stop worrying every time a customer rang to say they'd heard nothing). When an order did go wrong back then, it was nearly always a unit number left off. The flowers last a week or two. The card stays on the fridge for a year, which is a bit sad and a bit lovely all at once.
