Hamilton VIC Flower Delivery, In Town Same Day Before 2pm

Before 2pm on a weekday, today is still on. The flowers go out that afternoon in Hamilton: a birthday you have only just remembered, a room at one of the aged care homes, a ward on Foster Street. After 2pm it is the next working day. Saturday closes at 10am, and Sunday does not run, except for Mother's Day of course. Out of town is the one to watch. The delivery run goes one direction a day, so a property 25 kilometres down the Coleraine Road wants a day's notice. If the service is on Thursday, order on the Wednesday. If the address is a property name and a gate, ring 1300 360 469 and we will work it out.

The 2pm cutoff

2pm weekdays buys the afternoon. Somebody still has to make it and drive it.

Where it lands

Houses, the Foster Street wards, four aged care receptions, two cemeteries, two boarding schools.

Who makes it

Your order goes to a florist close to the area with the stems that day. The trade is below.

We Have Never Had a Shop in Hamilton

Your order goes to a partner florist in or close to Hamilton, built that morning. There are shops in town you can walk into and point at a bucket. We are not one of them. What you get instead is an order that does not stop when one shop shuts for a funeral.

The July mornings here do damage the afternoon cannot undo.

Anna, qualified florist | fifteen years on the bench, and the cold changes the answer

Everything I learned about flowers going wrong, I learned in the heat. Hamilton hands you the reverse. Living rooms here sit between fifteen and eighteen degrees, the band where nearly everything performs. Epping is 280 kilometres off, so a stem lands here roughly a day older than one on a Melbourne bench, and then it stops ageing. Fifteen degrees does that.

A mean July minimum of 4.4 degrees at 241 metres puts frost on the ground most winter mornings. A bunch left two hours on a step is finished before the door opens. Water in the cells freezes, the walls rupture, and by mid afternoon you see translucent patches on the outer petals. No recut fixes that. Send the arrangement where a person is standing.

What to Send, and Where It Needs to Land

Two things dominate here: a funeral, and a room in an aged care home. Tight budget, start under $60.

When the Service Is in Hamilton and You Are Not

Families from Coleraine, Dunkeld and the properties out west bury in Hamilton, and the ones who moved away still come back to do it. Flowers will not do a thing about that. They put your name in the room while you are still on the highway.

In our experience service flowers go to the funeral director on Collins Street, or graveside at the Lawn Cemetery on the Henty Highway, and the older ground on Coleraine Road still takes interments in family plots. Order a day ahead: a 10am service is over before the same day run starts. On the card, "Thinking of you and your family" does the job.

A lawn grave will not usually take a tall standing spray. Ask the director what that one allows. Country services still run to wreaths and sheaves.

Most of It Stops at Reception

Four aged care homes and a base hospital in a town of ten thousand, and most of those people have a son or daughter three hours away. The flowers tend to stop at a front desk in all five. The one that catches people is The Birches, which shares 20 Foster Street with the hospital campus, so the order needs the home's name as well as the street number. A ward needs the patient's full name. Between 2006 and 2010 I did ward and funeral home deliveries at Tweed Heads and up the Gold Coast, and a front desk works much the same everywhere.

Anna on ward and room deliveries

Country wards do not tend to keep spare vases, so send a box. And no lilies: the pollen travels room to room on staff clothing.

In by 2pm, there this afternoon.

Not sure what to send?

Plenty of orders have no occasion at all. Fair enough.

Natives. A leucadendron holds three to six weeks in a room at fifteen degrees, longer than the card stays on the mantelpiece. If nobody gets home until dark, that is the one I would send.

Hamilton Delivery, and What People Send

Does Sheepvention change anything?

The Rural Expo runs the first weekend of August at the Showgrounds and fills the district's accommodation. The streets around the grounds carry expo traffic for two days. Get the order in by the Friday and it lands before any of it.

The Cold Morning and the Awkward Addresses

What to put in the notes

A July doorstep here averages 4.4 degrees overnight, so early is not automatically kind. If the house is empty until evening, say where to leave it. Rural addresses want a property name and a gate colour. Boarding houses need their own name, or it can sit in the school office.

After You Order

An order number lands in your email and the job goes out that day. Ring 1300 360 469 to change the card or the address.

A woman rang me in 2012 wanting flowers for her mum in Hamilton. She had the road but not the number, only the house past the second gate out toward Coleraine, and she had not been down in four years. We got it there. If your address is that shape, put it in the notes.

Siobhan, on the part that goes quiet

What catches people out on a country address is the silence afterwards. You send them, then nothing, and by Thursday you have decided something went wrong. Usually it did not. Out here the photo often waits for the weekend. The flowers have already landed and done their work, whether anyone has managed to tell you or not. When it does go wrong it is nearly always a gate nobody told us about. Ring the same day, or email a photo, and we can fix it. Leave it a week and we cannot.

Asha was on my hip for a lot of the funeral home runs I did between 2006 and 2010. A one year old is a better introduction at a chapel reception than anything I could say.

I have never been to Hamilton. What I know is the network: twenty florists in 2009, Bendigo and Geelong among the first Victorian towns. More about Lily's Florist.
