We're Lily's Florist, Australian family owned since 2006, and we've been sending flowers to Townsville since 2008.
I'm Siobhan. Andrew and I first started getting flower requests heading to Townsville back in 2008, mostly from Defence Force families who had moved south but still had people up here. Heatley kept turning up. Army housing, Lavarack families, birthdays and thank yous that needed to travel 2,000 kilometres and still feel personal. Our first Townsville partner was Peg at Silver Wattle Florist, and she got what we were doing in about thirty seconds. That was eighteen years ago. For the full story of how two people with no flower experience ended up coordinating 800+ florists across Australia, here's our About Us page.
Most people in Heatley run the aircon from April through to November. Fair enough. But aircon pulls moisture out of the air, and cut flowers are basically tissue paper trying to hold water. In a room set to 22 degrees with the split system running, the stems are losing moisture faster than they can drink it. I had a woman ring from Rockhampton in 2012 who could not work out why her roses lasted two days. She kept them in the lounge room with the aircon on all day. That was the problem. Inside, the air was so dry that the petals curled from the edges in by the second morning.
Change the vase water every single day, not every three days like you would in Sydney or Melbourne. Top it up in the afternoon if the level drops. And keep the flowers away from the direct airflow of the unit. Three metres from the vent is enough. If the flowers are in the path of the cold stream, they dry out faster and no amount of water in the vase will keep up.
Florists up here know this. Good ones will build with hardier stems for indoor environments. Chrysanths, carnations, orchids in a pot, anthuriums. Anything with a waxy surface or a thick petal wall. Standard soft roses from Rocklea that have already travelled overnight in a freight truck are a risk in a Heatley lounge room at the best of times. A smart florist sticks to tropicals.
Your order reaches Heatley through our partner florist network. We've worked with florists across the greater Townsville area for years. They source stock from Rocklea Markets in Brisbane overnight, supplemented by locally grown tropical stems that are hours old, not days. Your partner florist in the Heatley area knows the suburb is compact, about two square kilometres of lowset housing off Nathan Street. Most front doors are accessible without a gate code or a buzzer. That familiarity with the streets and the conditions is why your flowers arrive in good shape.

* How it works. You order, we connect with a Heatley area florist, they deliver fresh. No post. No boxes.

Heatley has a lot of Defence families, people who have been posted up from down south and still have connections scattered around the country. Flowers heading here tend to be sent by someone who cannot be there in person. That means the arrangement has to carry the message by itself. The right stems, the right colours, and a florist who understands what the NQ heat will do to them between the van and the front door.
Colour is what counts for birthdays. Bright mixed stems hold their punch in a Heatley lounge room longer than you'd expect if the florist picks heat tolerant varieties. A Florists Choice Birthday Arrangement lets the florist work with whatever is best at the market that day, which in Townsville often means tropical foliage alongside chrysanths and carnations. If you want something bolder, the Starburst Bunch ($79.95) opens a room up. Order before 2pm and it arrives today.

Anna, qualified florist: Gerberas travel well in heat because the stem is hollow and drinks fast. But they bruise if the delivery is rough. A florist who knows Heatley's flat, short runs can use gerberas without worrying about transit damage. They are one of the best birthday stems for NQ if the trip from shop to door is under twenty minutes.
A lot of the orders we process to Heatley come from interstate. Partners or parents who were posted to Lavarack, finished their time, moved south, but left friends and neighbours behind. A Thinking of You arrangement says something that a text message cannot. Your florist puts it together that day, delivers it to the front door, and the recipient knows someone thought about them enough to make it happen from 2,000 kilometres away. Same day if you order by 2pm.
For a "thinking of you" to Heatley, I would always go pastel or neutral tones. Soft pinks, creams, whites. Nothing too loud. You are not throwing a party. You are saying I am here. A hand tied bunch in a vase works well because it needs zero effort from the person receiving it. Fill the vase, trim the stems, done. In NQ heat, lisianthus and spray roses hold up better than standard long stems for this kind of arrangement.
When Defence families get posted elsewhere, a thank you arrangement to the neighbour who collected the mail, or the colleague who covered the desk, means more than a card. A Bright Mixed Bunch ($79.95) or a Colourful Bunch Including Chocolates ($97.95) adds weight to the gesture. Your florist builds it with whatever is brightest at Rocklea that week, and NQ growers often supply gingers and anthuriums that outlast anything shipped from down south. Order before 2pm and it gets there today.
Anthuriums are my pick for thank you flowers in NQ. They last two to three weeks in a vase, the waxy surface handles humidity and aircon equally, and the red or pink heart shapes look good in photos. People always send a photo back to the person who ordered. An anthurium looks as good in the photo on day ten as it did on day one.
Sympathy timing matters. If the service is at Morley's in Aitkenvale, flowers need to arrive early that morning. If they are going to the home, the florist will check the address and time it for when someone is likely to be there. A Florists Choice Sympathy Bunch ($74.50) is a safe, respectful starting point. Whites, creams, muted greens. If you need to coordinate with a funeral director, call us on 1300 360 469 and we will work out the timing together.

In Townsville's heat, sympathy flowers need stems that will not collapse in a warm room where the family is too distracted to change vase water. Disbuds, spray chrysanths, and hardy foliage like ruscus or pittosporum. I would skip standard roses for sympathy in NQ because if the family forgets the water for two days in a 30 degree lounge room, the petals will brown. Chrysanths can handle the neglect and still look decent a week later.
The Deal Of The Day Bunch ($75.25) lets the florist pick the stems that are at their peak that day. In Townsville, that often means a mix of Rocklea market stock and locally grown tropicals. Every day is different, and it is usually better for it. You can also go with a Blissful Botanics Bunch ($79.95) if you want natives in the mix. If budget is tight, a Single Wrapped Red Rose starts at $42.95 with delivery at $16.95. Flowers from $60 are in the flowers under $60 range. Order before 2pm and it arrives today.
Florists Choice works well in NQ because the florist picks what survived the freight run from Brisbane and what came in direct from local growers. What they build today will have different stems from the one they built yesterday, and that variety is a strength. Every bunch is one of a kind.
Phone: Call 1300 360 469 to place an order or ask anything about your delivery. You can also email [email protected] or use our live chat.
Same day cutoff: Order by 2pm weekdays or 10am Saturdays. The cutoff exists because the florist needs time to source stems, build your arrangement, and complete the delivery run before end of business. Rushing that process compromises the quality.
No Sunday delivery: Our partner florists do not deliver on Sundays. Rocklea Markets in Brisbane, where Townsville florists source most non-tropical stock, is closed on Sundays. No market means limited fresh stems. We would rather not deliver than deliver something substandard.
Delivery fee: $16.95 per delivery. We subsidise this. The actual cost of a local delivery run is often higher, especially during peak periods. We absorb the difference to keep the price fair for you.
If your order is heading to Lavarack Barracks, please include the recipient's mobile number and as much detail as you can about their location on base. Without a mobile number, the florist may not be able to get past security and the delivery can fail.
One customer who ordered from interstate to Townsville wrote:
"Excellent, easy to use and super fast delivery :) I ordered around 11am and the delivery was received at around 2:30pm in Townsville."
A three and a half hour turnaround from order to doorstep tells you two things about how this works. The partner florist had fresh stock ready to go, and the delivery run was planned around the same day cutoff. That kind of speed is only possible when the florist is local to the area and has the stems already conditioned.

Once you place the order, it moves fast. We route it to a partner florist covering the Heatley area. They source stems early, build your arrangement by hand, and load it into their delivery van alongside the rest of the day's runs. Heatley is a compact suburb so most deliveries happen within the same morning route. If nobody is home, the florist will try a neighbour, leave the flowers in a shaded spot, or make a second attempt.
If anything is wrong with the delivery, send photos to [email protected] within 24 hours. We will sort it out. Replacement, partial credit, or full refund depending on what happened. We have been doing this since 2009 and we fix problems quickly.
Our partner florists cover the broader Townsville area, so these suburbs are on the same delivery run.
