Same Day Flower Delivery to Lambton NSW

Same-day flower delivery covers all of Lambton: order before 2pm on a weekday, or 10am Saturday, and the flowers arrive at the house or the office this afternoon. Later than that, pick another day at checkout. For a funeral, order the day before a morning service and name the street, because Lambton has two St John's: Dickson Street (Catholic) and Morehead Street (Anglican). Choose the Australian Natives Bunch, our bestseller since 2013, from the range below, or call us and one of our friendly, Australian-based team will order it with you.

Which flowers hold up in a busy Lambton family house

Anna, qualified florist | on bananas, lily buds and the stems that don't mind

Ripening fruit gives off ethylene, and flowers read it as the signal to finish. Bananas on the bench are enough: in the same room, carnations curl at the edges and lilies drop their youngest buds, so a bunch built to keep opening for a week stops halfway. I first saw it at Salt in Kingscliff, a bucket of carnations parked beside the staff fruit, curled shut by morning.

Lambton is mostly houses, and in a family house the flowers often end up on the kitchen bench. Gerberas, chrysanthemums and the woody natives, protea and leucadendron, couldn't care less about ethylene, so a gerbera-led bunch or a natives bunch is the safe bet there. Lilies do beautifully on a dining table in another room. Different room, problem solved.

Lambton Birthday, Get Well and Funeral Flowers

Birthdays come first across our network, and sympathy second. Get well matters here too, with John Hunter Hospital next door at New Lambton Heights. Our native flowers suit all three.

Birthday Flowers When Nobody's Home Until School Pick-Up

The birthday is today, you're not there, and they might not be home until after school pick-up anyway. For the house, put their mobile and a shady spot in the notes (the side out of the afternoon sun, if you know it); for work, the business name. From what our florists tell us, the driver rings that mobile if nobody comes to the door. Any of our birthday flowers, or the birthday flowers for a friend, can go out today if you order before the cutoff.

Anna's pick: the Gerbera Bunch + Teddy + Birthday Balloon. Gerberas don't mind the fruit bowl, so this one can live in the kitchen. The stems are hollow, though, and cloudy water folds them at the neck. Fresh water every couple of days.

Get Well Flowers: Ask If They're Still in Hospital First

You've heard about the operation second-hand and don't know if they're still on the ward. Ask the family first (a quick text to whoever told you usually does it). On the ward? The notes need John Hunter Hospital, their full name and the ward; in our experience the staff take flowers through from the ward desk. Home already? Send to the house, and "Rest up and let them fuss" is enough for the card. See get well flowers or hospital flowers.

For the ward, go for the Blissful Botanics Arrangement: it's built in wet foam inside its own container, so nobody hunts for a vase. Foam water goes stale, though. Half a cup poured straight into the foam every second day keeps the stems drinking.

For Funeral Flowers, Say Which St John's

You've got the funeral notice, a venue and a time, and that's about it. Lambton has Dailey Family Funerals on Elder Street and two churches called St John's, Catholic on Dickson Street and Anglican on Morehead Street, so put the venue, street and start time in the notes. I learned why in 2007, when Andrew drove a sheath to St Joseph's Village in Tweed Heads South for a funeral that was at St Joseph's church on Wharf Street. He got there in time, just, and still blames the signage (I've seen the signage). For a morning service, order the day before.

Choosing funeral flowers at a desk feels wrong, and it's where most of us end up doing it. "Thinking of you all" says it on the card. Funeral flowers go to the service; sympathy flowers for the home suit anything going to the family's house.

Anna, on sheaths

A sheath is made to lie flat, so the White Lily & Rose Sheath rests on the casket with no stand to knock over.

If It Doesn't Fit a Heading, Leave It to the Florist

A new job, a finished exam, the neighbour who fed the cat for a fortnight. Lots of good reasons to send flowers don't come with a category, and Anna has a view on these.

A Florist's Choice Bunch has no theme to match, so the florist builds it from whichever stems are looking best on the day. No brief is the best brief a florist gets. Some of my favourite bunches came out of exactly that.

Best-Selling Birthday Flowers

Same-Day Cutoffs, and the Notes That Get Flowers There

Same-day cutoffs

2pm weekdays, because our partner florists need the rest of the day to make up and deliver.
10am Saturday, for their shorter day.
No Sunday delivery, except Mother's Day.
Ordering after that? Pick another day at checkout.

What the notes need

A house: their mobile and a shady spot. Work: the business name. John Hunter Hospital: full name and ward. A funeral: venue, street and start time (Dailey Family Funerals on Elder Street, or which St John's), and order the day before a morning service.

Who takes the flowers

From what we've seen: the person at home or the spot you named, the ward desk at John Hunter, or the funeral director's team. Order before 2pm on a weekday and the house or office has them this afternoon.

Sympathy Flowers for a Service

No Thank-You Call Yet Doesn't Mean Anything's Wrong

Your confirmation email arrives straight away (check junk if it hasn't, it happens more than you'd think). A florist in or close to Lambton makes up the flowers and takes them out. To change anything, email [email protected] or ring our team on 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays and from 10am Saturday.

Andrew, on the part after the order goes out

Usually nothing's wrong. The recipient just hasn't rung yet, and people home from surgery sleep. Worried senders rang me plenty between 2006 and 2013, and the thank-you nearly always came, just later than they wanted. When a delivery stalls, it's usually a missing mobile, and the florist rings you to sort it. Something wrong with the flowers? Send us a photo the same day and we fix it.

Most cards outlast the flowers.

Close by, and Newcastle itself

Newcastle Was Ordering From Us Before We Were Lily's Florist

Andrew and Siobhan Thomson, co-founders of Lily's Florist
Co-founder, Lily's Florist

Andrew and I bought a little flower and gift shop on Marine Parade, Kingscliff, in 2006, and drove most of the deliveries ourselves until 2009 (Tweed Hospital, John Flynn, more nursing homes than I could count). In 2007 and 2008 Newcastle's suburbs were among our ten busiest areas for orders, and we passed every one of those orders to a florist down there.

In 2009 that way of working became Lily's Florist. The rest is on about Lily's Florist.
