People reach for roses for a big birthday out of habit. For an older recipient I would steer you off them. A rose gives you a week at best, and a milestone bunch wants to still look good when the last of the visitors leaves on Sunday. Go for carnations, chrysanths, or a bright mixed bunch with lily buds that open on a delay. Same money, and twice the vase life. If the house runs to pale carpet or cream lounges, ask for pollen-free lilies, the same look without the orange stain that never washes out. Age-specific 60th birthday flowers take the guesswork out of it.

Plenty of orders do not fit sympathy, a birthday or a quiet hello. You know the person, you just do not know what belongs in the vase.
