Same Day Flowers Delivery - Australia Wide!
Flowers to Mooroobool today? Yes, on any weekday order placed before 2pm, made that day by our partner florist in Cairns; after that, you choose the day at checkout. A birthday bunch for the house, a thank-you for the carers at Bupa Cairns on Swallow Street, sympathy for a grieving family: we send all three. Pick a Florists Choice Birthday Bunch from our same-day range below, or call us and let one of our friendly, Australian-based team do the typing.
Where the flowers are going decides the size: a house, or an aged-care room
At a house, a bunch gets the whole kitchen bench. In an aged-care room it has a corner of the bedside table, next to the glasses, a water jug, photos and the call bell. A big bunch ends up on the windowsill instead, where Cairns afternoon sun on a west-facing window can fade a red to pink in two days. Size it the way I was taught in North Carolina: flowers about one and a half times the height of the vase.
The 3 Gerberas In A Vase fits in the space of a water glass. For memory care, send something familiar, like roses, in a box that won't tip easily. The Blush Pinks Arrangement With Chocolates sits low in foam, and a splash of water every second day keeps it going.
A birthday, a thank-you, a funeral: here is what to send for each in Mooroobool, where it should go, and what the notes need.
The birthday is today and you're a long way off. For a house, put a mobile in the notes in case nobody's home. For Bupa Cairns, in our experience reception takes the flowers through to the room.
Siobhan and I did our own deliveries until about 2009, plenty of them into retirement villages. At Noble Lakeside Park in Kingscliff in 2008 I had lilies in one hand, pollen down my shirt and Asha, nine months old, protesting from the car. Half the lounge came to the glass. I drove home looking like the intern. Every delivery into care has an audience.
At home, the Florists Choice Birthday Bunch goes straight into a vase; cut a couple of centimetres off the stems on an angle before it does. For an 80th or a 90th in an air-conditioned room, carnations and chrysanthemums last well over a week, and roses about a week if the vase sits away from the vent.
Someone went out of their way: got your kid through Year 4, or looked after Mum all year. For a teacher at Balaclava State School, the flowers tend to go to the school office on Mulgrave Road, so put the class in the notes. For the carers at Bupa Cairns, address it to the staff of the wing; the Bright Arrangement With Chocolates works there, because the chocolates get shared round.
An arrangement comes in its own container, so nobody at a desk or on shift goes hunting for a vase. Keep it away from the air-con vent: dry air pulls water out of soft petals faster than heat does.
Someone has died and you want the family to know you're thinking of them. For the service, a White Funeral Wreath or a sheath usually goes through the funeral director, with the service time in the notes. For the family, send sympathy flowers to the house, a day or two after if the first days are hectic. If the family is Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, as about one in eight Mooroobool residents are (2021 Census), ask them what they'd like. A card that works: "We're so sorry. Here whenever you need us."
From the bench: the Australian Native Arrangement suits a warm lounge room full of visitors. Natives like leucadendron hold about ten days at 28 degrees, and a protea's leaves blacken while the head stays put. That's normal.
Plenty of orders don't fit a heading: a new job, a rough week, a card you forgot to post. Anna has a view on this one.
A mixed bunch spreads the bet. The Rose, Gerbera & Lilies Bunch usually opens in stages, gerberas first and lilies last, so Friday's vase looks different from Monday's. As each lily opens, pinch off the anthers, the orange pollen tips, before they dust the petals.
More ways to choose
Ordered before the cutoff, a birthday bunch goes out today.
Shop Birthday Flowers2pm weekdays, so the florist can build your order and make the afternoon run.
10am Saturday, a shorter trading day.
No Sunday delivery, except Mother's Day.
Bupa Cairns: full name, room and wing, because it's a 151-bed home. A house: the number, a mobile, and a shady spot if nobody's in. A funeral: the director and the service time.
At Bupa, in our experience a carer or reception signs for it. At home, whoever answers, or the spot you named. Order before the cutoff and it goes out today.
You'll get an email confirming the order, and our partner florist in Cairns builds and delivers it on the day. In 2009 we were faxing orders to florists. It's quicker now.
To change the card or fix anything, ring 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays, or email [email protected].
Sent to someone in care and heard nothing? Try not to read into it (easier said, I know). When I was on our phones, 2006 to February 2011, plenty of thank-yous came a week late, or through a daughter. Flowers are a small thing next to a visit, and they're still there when you can't be. What people minded most, back then, was finding a stem swapped without being told. These days, if one isn't at the market that morning, the florist keeps to the colour and the value, and the order says so.
