Today works: order before 2pm on a weekday, or 10am on a Saturday, and the flowers reach their Watson address the same day; any later, pick a date at checkout. Townhouse or ACU's Signadou campus? Add the unit number, or a building and mobile, in the notes. Buy the Lovely Lilac & Lime Bunch, or anything in our same-day range below, online in minutes, or call us and our friendly, Australian-based team will place the order with you.
Delivered to a Watson townhouse with no vase? A hand-tied bunch stands up in a jug
In a townhouse or a share house, the vase is often the last thing unpacked. A hand-tied bunch copes. The stems are spiralled to cross at one binding point and fan out underneath, so each one reaches the water on its own and the bunch stands up in a jug or a pasta jar.
Before the stems go in, recut them at about forty-five degrees; a flat cut sits on the bottom of the jug and seals itself off. The first test I was taught at the bench was to set a finished bunch down on the table and let go. If it stood, it was tied right.
We deliver to every street in Watson, from the townhouses off the Federal Highway to the older houses near Mount Majura. Birthdays lead, as they do across our whole network, though a bunch of flowers sent for no reason is just as welcome.
It's their birthday, you're nowhere near Watson, and all you have is the address someone texted you. A house is simple. A unit isn't always, and nearly a third of homes in Watson are townhouses or semis, including the complex on the old Starlight Drive-in site (the big sign is still up, if you know it). Whatever the birthday, a 40th or a best friend's, if it's going to one of those, put the unit number and any gate code in the notes.
The Bright Arrangement With Chocolates is built into soaked foam in its own box, so it's drinking from the minute it lands and nobody has to leave the party to find even a jug. Foam dries from the top down, though. Pour a little water in every couple of days, or the roses up top go soft first.
Last week of the school year, and the teacher at Majura Primary or Rosary Primary has earned more than a card in the schoolbag. Send thank-you flowers to the front office with the teacher's name and class on them, because that's where schools tend to want them. Andrew learnt why in December 2007, when he took a bucket of teacher bunches in the wrong door at Kingscliff Public School and walked straight through the middle of an assembly. The whole school turned round. He still won't talk about it.
Teacher flowers ride home in a hot car at the end of the day, and a hand-tied bunch lies flat on the seat without spilling. The back shelf is the worst spot in the car: an hour of December sun through the glass costs a bunch days in the vase.
Someone has died, and you're working out what goes where. Funeral flowers need the church or chapel and the start time in the notes (Holy Rosary on Antill Street, say, or Norwood Park in Mitchell), so they're in place before the first car pulls up. Flowers to the house often mean more a week later, once it has all gone quiet. Flowers change nothing about what has happened, and people still remember who sent them. "Thinking of you all, with love" is plenty for the card.
Anna's take: white lilies are about as traditional as funeral flowers get. If lilies go to the house, pinch off the anthers as each one opens and the pollen never reaches a good black jacket.
A new job, a rough patch, the neighbour who fed the cat: plenty of orders are like that. Anna has a default for those, and it comes from our native flowers.
The Natives Flowers With A Vase. The vase comes with it, and protea and leucadendron are built for dry air, so a Canberra winter with the heating on suits them fine. Top the water up every second day, though. A protea can drink a vase dry in a couple of days.

No Sunday delivery, except Mother's Day.
A unit number, and any gate code, for the townhouses. A building and mobile for ACU's Signadou campus. The church and start time for Holy Rosary or Norwood Park. The ward for North Canberra Hospital in Bruce.
In our experience: at a house, whoever answers; at Majura Primary or Rosary Primary, the front office; on a ward, the nurses' station. Order now and it can be in Watson today.
You'll get an email confirming the order. If your person doesn't ring straight away, don't read anything into it; people are at work, at lectures, wrangling toddlers. I took that worried call for years on the phones, and the next one was nearly always to say they'd rung. To change something, email [email protected] or ring 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays and from 10am Saturday, and one of our team will sort it.
First time I saw Watson was 1993, through the windscreen of an orange Ford Escort coming in on the Federal Highway. No heater. By 2007 Canberra was one of the ten areas our Marine Parade shop phone rang for most, and we had nobody there to send the orders to. These days your order goes to one of our partner florists near Watson, who makes it up that day. When one goes wrong, it's nearly always a unit number. Email us a photo the same day and we fix it.
The flowers last a week or two. The card ends up on the fridge for a lot longer.
