Sympathy Flowers for Sacred Heart, St John's or the House
The notice says Sacred Heart on North Street or St John's Lutheran on Bridge Street, and you're nowhere near either. Put the service time and the funeral director in the notes (McGrath Funerals on Mylne Street, say, or Burstows on Ruthven Street) and funeral flowers tend to beat the family to the church. Flowers for the house can follow later. For the card: "Holding you all close today."
Choosing a wreath for someone you'd rather be hugging is an odd job, and from a distance it's most of what there is to do.

If Nobody Rings You Tonight
When I was on the phones, from 2006 until Ivy arrived in 2011, the worried calls were nearly always the same: Mum hasn't rung. She usually had the flowers on the table and was saving the call for the weekend (or she'd rung your sister instead, which is its own conversation).

Most problems start with an address that looked complete. Two numbers on one letterbox. A resort home with no house number. The driver rings the number in the notes, then the florist rings you, and the flowers are late by however long those two calls take. If something's wrong when they land, send us a photo that day and we sort it out with the florist.
And if your sister gets the thank-you call first, let her have it.
