Flowers for someone out at Airville, sent from wherever you are, can be delivered today, right to the farmhouse, on any weekday order placed before 2pm. Later than that, just pick the day at checkout. We've delivered across the Burdekin since 2007: pop the road number from the gate and a mobile in the notes and the flowers will find them. Choose a Gerbera Bunch + Teddy + Birthday Balloon for a birthday or the Pastel Pink Lilies & Roses Arrangement for sympathy below, or call us and our friendly Australian-based team will sort it with you.
Which flowers last in Airville, and the one line to add to the card
Humidity is kind to flowers; it keeps the petals full of water. The catch is the wet season, roughly December to April, when the humidity sits near ninety percent in warm air and a bunch stays sealed in its wrap. That wakes botrytis, which is grey mould: brown flecks on the outer petals of roses and carnations, where the petals press together.
Roses and carnations still do beautifully in that climate. They just want the cellophane off the day they land and a bit of air round the vase, so add a line to the card asking them to unwrap the flowers straight away. If a few outer petals fleck anyway, pull them; the bloom underneath is fine. I learned that at Salt in Kingscliff, which has sticky summers of its own.
Birthdays and sympathy are most of what we send out this way, usually from family living somewhere else, so the cards below start there. Thank-yous for teachers come every December, and now and then an engagement wants celebration flowers.
It's Mum's birthday and you're in Brisbane, or Perth, or anywhere but her kitchen table. Through the cane crush, June to November, a farmhouse can sit empty from first light, so if she works in town, send it there and let the office make a fuss of her. Put a mobile in the notes either way. Start with birthday flowers for Mum or our best-selling birthday flowers.
Anna's call: gerberas, like the Gerbera Bunch + Teddy + Birthday Balloon. In mango season, ripening mangoes on a farmhouse bench give off ethylene, a gas that tells lilies and carnations to finish early, and gerberas barely notice it. Lilies just want a different room.
You couldn't get up there for the service. Or you were there, and now you're home and they're still in it. Funeral flowers go to the funeral director with the service time in the notes. Flowers for the house often land better a week on, once the visitors thin out. Try sympathy flowers for home or white sympathy flowers, with a card as plain as “Thinking of you all.”
A Gorgeous White Arrangement comes standing in its own container. Nobody in a kitchen full of mourners should be hunting for a vase.
End of year, and in a school with two classrooms, Prep to Year 6, your child's teacher may have had them three years running. Send the flowers care of the office at Airville State School. I learned why in December 2007, walking a bunch of gerberas past the office at Cudgen Public School, back home on the Tweed, and straight into the wrong classroom, mid-lesson. Twenty-odd faces turned round. Have a look at our thank-you flowers.
Teachers drive their flowers home at three. A flower arrangement sits on the car floor without tipping its water. On a back seat in the afternoon sun, soft petals start to wilt before they reach home.
Plenty of orders don't fit a heading, and you don't need a reason to send flowers out there.
2 Lily Stems In Glass Vase. Lilies arrive as buds and open one after another, so the vase looks new for days. Pinch the orange anthers off as each opens, because that pollen stains whatever it touches. And keep them away from the mangoes.

The road number from the farm gate, or the teacher's name and the school. Then a mobile for whoever is receiving it.
On a farm, whoever is home. In our experience the driver rings that mobile if nobody is, and leaves it in the shade. At the school, the office. Order this morning and it's at the gate this afternoon.
An email comes through as soon as the order does. To change the card or the date, write to [email protected] or ring 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays and from 10am Saturday. And if they haven't rung by tea time, give it a day. On a farm, people ring when the work's done.
In 2007 and 2008 the Burdekin was one of our ten busiest delivery areas. We had one shop, on Marine Parade in Kingscliff, and a Yellow Pages ad that had the phone ringing for towns we had never driven through. It made no sense for a shop that size. It's also why the network exists. When an order goes wrong out that way, it's nearly always the gate: no road number, no mobile. Send us a photo the same day and we put it right.
