Flowers ordered before 2pm on a weekday, or 10am on a Saturday, are delivered in Civic the same day; order later and they arrive on the date you pick at checkout. Going to someone at work? Add the company and floor, or the store name for a shop in the Canberra Centre. Our Natives Flowers With A Vase arrives ready for a desk and takes two minutes to buy online. Or call us, and one of our friendly, Australian-based team will place it for you.
Why flowers delivered to a Civic office dry out faster than at home
Canberra is kind to flowers in winter, everywhere except inside an office tower. Heating all winter, aircon all summer, and the air in there sits down near thirty percent humidity. The petals lose water faster than the stem can replace it, so rose edges go papery and curl back. I watched it happen to foyer arrangements under the aircon at Salt, more times than I can count.
Keep the vase off the vent and top it up each morning, and roses do beautifully on a desk. Natives and chrysanthemums barely notice the dry air. In an office, water is the whole trick.
Civic orders tend to go to someone at work, an apartment tower on Northbourne Avenue or a funeral service. Our flower arrangements arrive set in their own container, so nobody needs to find a vase.
It's their birthday and they'll spend most of it at work, so send it there, with the company, the floor and their mobile in the notes. A first name on its own leaves building security guessing, and the flowers can sit there a while.
I learned that in 2007 at the Gold Coast City Council building on Bundall Road, a government block much like the ones around London Circuit, holding a birthday bunch and a first name. There were three women by that name in the building. Reception rang all three.
Our best-selling birthday flowers are the place to start. Anna's call: for an office, pick an arrangement or anything that comes with a vase. Nobody keeps one in the drawer.
An anniversary surprise into an apartment tower on Northbourne Avenue works a treat right up until the intercom. Add the unit number, the name on the buzzer and a mobile, and mention the concierge if there is one, so the bunch gets past the lobby door. Start with our romantic flowers or our anniversary flowers.
Red roses keep their colour well out of the afternoon sun. Sunlight breaks down the red pigment, so on a west-facing sill a deep red rose fades to pink in a couple of days. Keep them back from the window.
A colleague has lost someone and the card is going round the floor. For a service at Norwood Park in Mitchell or Canberra City Uniting on Northbourne Avenue, put the service time and the family name in the notes. For the family home, a few days after the funeral often lands better. If the family's tradition has rules about colour, say so in the notes and the florist works to them. See our funeral flowers or our sympathy flowers for the home. "With love, from everyone on level four" is plenty for the card.
White sympathy flowers sit easily beside other tributes at a service, and just as quietly in a lounge room. Pinch the lily anthers off as each bloom opens and the pollen stays off everyone's good clothes.
Promotions, new jobs, a farewell from the department: plenty of Civic orders have no category of their own. Our celebration flowers cover most of them.
Anna's pick is the Blissful Botanics Arrangement. It comes set in its own box, so it goes straight onto a workstation, and its native stems were built for dry air.

In our experience, a person: a building's front desk, hotel reception, a shop counter, or the front office at the ACT Legislative Assembly on Civic Square. A mobile in the notes lets the florist ring if nobody is there. Order before 2pm on a weekday and it's in Civic this afternoon.
You get an email confirming the order, and one of our partner florists near Civic builds and delivers it on the day. That's the whole process, and it has been since 2009. In 2007 and 2008 our little shop on Marine Parade kept getting calls for Canberra (twenty or thirty a month, we tallied them), thanks to the previous owner's Yellow Pages ad. It drove us a bit mad, and calls like those are how the whole network started. Civic was on our first short list, with Braddon and out to Deakin. If they haven't rung you yet, that's normal, people at work tend to message once they're home. And when a Civic order does go wrong, it's nearly always a missing floor number, which still annoys me because it's such a small thing.
