"People default to a dozen reds because it feels safe," she says. "A good florist can build something with oriental lilies and lisianthus alongside a few roses that lasts longer and stops people in their tracks. Same money, better result."

For get well flowers, especially if they are going to a hospital, keep in mind that nurses prefer arrangements that arrive in a box or vase. There are no scissors on the ward, no spare vases in a hospital bedside cabinet, and the patient probably cannot get up to deal with a hand tied bunch that needs trimming. Our florists know this and they will prepare something that can go straight onto the table without any fuss.

Sending congratulations for a promotion, a new home, or a milestone? Bright colours tend to land well. Yellows, oranges, something bold. The 2pm cutoff protects the quality of what you receive."

The Saturday cutoff is tighter at 10am because delivery routes are compressed into half a day and florists need time to prepare. We do not deliver Sundays. Flower markets close Saturday afternoon and any florist delivering Sunday is working with Friday stock. That is already three days old before it reaches your vase. We would rather be upfront about that than offer something that disappoints.
