Order before 2pm on a weekday, or 10am on a Saturday, and the flowers are delivered in Forrest today; later than that, pick any date at checkout. For a funeral at St Christopher's Cathedral, put the start time in the notes. Our Pastel Pink Lilies & Roses Arrangement below comes in its own silver cube, no vase needed, and takes two minutes to buy online. Or call us, and one of our friendly, Australian-based team will help you choose.
Roses delivered in Forrest should arrive half-open, and that is a good sign
Half-open is the stage I always wanted a rose at. The test sits underneath: once the green sepals have folded back to about ninety degrees, the bud has stored enough sugar to open fully. A bud with its sepals still clamped shut photographs well on day one, then can sit closed for days and drop its head. I learnt that at Salt in Kingscliff, over a bucket of buds that never opened.
Canberra is kind to a rose bought that way. In a room at fifteen to eighteen degrees a good one gives ten days to two weeks; nearer twenty-two, a week to ten days. Keep the vase off the heater.
We deliver across Forrest, from the big houses on Mugga Way to the apartments near Manuka. More than one in five residents is over sixty-five (2021 Census), so the first two cards here are milestone birthdays and services. For couples married a long time, there are anniversary flowers too.
The birthday is today and you're ordering from another city. On a weekday before 2pm, flowers for a 70th or an 80th go out the same day. For the apartments near Manuka, add the unit number and a mobile, because a building name on its own tends to leave the driver at a locked foyer.
Anna's pick: the Rose, Gerbera & Lilies Bunch, already standing in its own glass vase. It runs on three clocks: the gerberas peak first, the roses open through the week, then the lily buds crack one at a time, so it looks different on day six than it did on day one.
Someone has died, and the service is in Forrest, or the family would rather have flowers at the house. For the service, put the church and the start time in the notes. St Christopher's Cathedral is on Franklin Street and St Andrew's is on State Circle, and whichever partner florist takes the order can work the delivery around the funeral director.
In 2008 I carried a white sheath from our Marine Parade shop to St Anthony's on Pearl Street, Kingscliff. The docket said St Anthony's and nothing else. Two minutes' walk. Forty minutes early. I sat on the church steps holding it while three people offered me their condolences. That is what the start time is for. The card can be short: “Thinking of you all today.”
A sheath is built flat-backed, with no foam and no vessel, so it lies on the casket or at the foot of the stand and needs nothing from anyone. For the house, send white already standing in water. A wrapped bunch tends to sit on the bench in its cellophane until somebody finds a vase.
Somebody is in Calvary John James on Strickland Crescent, or home again and not going far. For the hospital, give their full name, and the ward if you know it. In our experience flowers go to the ward desk, and ICU doesn't take them. For home, thinking of you flowers do the job. The card: “Glad you're on the mend.”
One Oriental lily fills a shared room, and the scent gets stronger with every bud that opens, so I'd keep anything with lilies in it for the house. Gerberas carry almost none. The 3 Gerberas In A Vase arrive already standing in water, so nobody on the ward has to go looking for a vase.
Plenty of orders aren't birthdays, funerals or hospital stays: the neighbour who collected the mail, a new job in a Barton office, someone you haven't rung since winter. Anna has one for this.
The Gorgeous Whites Bunch. The little green balls in it are green trick dianthus, which have no petals to drop and are still going after the roses finish. White with green reads right for a thank you, a new job or a long silence.

Order before the cutoff and it is there this afternoon.
Shop Birthday Flowers2pm weekdays for same-day, so a florist in or close to Forrest has the afternoon to make the order up and drive it over. 10am Saturdays, as the Saturday run finishes earlier. Later than that, pick any date at checkout. No Sunday delivery, except Mother's Day.
A unit number and a mobile for the apartments near Manuka. For the big houses on Mugga Way, which door, or the side gate. For a service, the church and the start time.
In our experience: at St Christopher's or St Andrew's, the funeral director; at White Lady Funerals, 75 Canberra Avenue, Kingston, the chapel staff; at BaptistCare Carey Gardens in Red Hill, reception, who take the flowers to the room. Order before 2pm on a weekday and it lands this afternoon.
Once you've paid, the order goes to one of our partner florists near Forrest, who makes it up and takes it over. To check it has landed, ring 02 8090 0577 or 1300 360 469 (same team), 7am to 6pm weekdays. To change a detail, email [email protected]. If something is wrong, send a photo the same day and we put it right.
When I was on the phones, which was 2006 to early 2011, the worried call the next morning was usually a son or daughter interstate who hadn't heard back from Mum, and you could hear they'd been up half the night about it. She was nearly always fine. She'd had the neighbours in to look at the flowers first, or put the kettle on, or both (people do). When a delivery did go wrong, it was almost always a unit number left off. So put it in, and give her a day.
The flowers last a week or two. The card tends to stay on the fridge for months, and nobody pays extra for that part.
