Add the ward to the notes. Choose from our same-day flowers below, or call us and one of our friendly, Australian-based team will sort it before your kettle boils.
How Long Will the Flowers Last in Gowrie Junction? A Week or More
A week or more, in my experience, for most bunches in a lounge room around twenty degrees, roses included. When a stem droops early, it's often air in the stem, and roses show it first. A cut stem left dry for a few minutes draws air up inside, the water stops reaching the head, and it folds over just under the bloom. Florists call it bent neck.
A bunch that has sat in its wrap all afternoon, waiting for someone to get home, has had a long, thirsty wait. Give each stem a little off at an angle and get it straight into clean water, no pause on the kitchen bench. I learnt that on an armful of reds I'd cut and then left lying on the bench while I went looking for a clean bucket. Half the heads had folded by morning.
If you're sending flowers to Gowrie Junction, it's most likely for a birthday, someone in hospital or a funeral. Find yours in the first three cards below: each says what to send, where it ends up and what to put in the notes. In a hurry? Our roses suit all three.
Birthday flowers can go to their house or their work, whichever suits. Plenty of Gowrie Junction people work in Toowoomba, so the house is often empty until evening. Either send the flowers home with a shady spot named in the notes, or to their work so the office can make a fuss (which, between us, most people secretly love). Start with our best-selling birthday flowers, or the page for a 40th.
Anna's call: if someone's home to take it, a bunch is lovely; for a long wait on a verandah, an arrangement in wet foam keeps drinking. The Florists Choice Birthday Arrangement will hold until they're home.
Often all you've got is a ward number off a text. The hospital is often St Andrew's on North Street or Toowoomba Hospital on Pechey Street, so put the hospital, the ward and their full name in the notes; in our experience the flowers wait at the ward desk until the patient's back in bed. If they're already home recovering, send to the house instead.
Hospital desks and I go back a long way. The summer after Asha was born I had five minutes to get a bunch to reception at Murwillumbah Hospital, Asha screaming in the back, thirty-seven degrees and no park anywhere (oh, the anxiety). See our get well flowers or hospital flowers. For the card: Rest up. We'll bring the good biscuits.
In a shared room the next bed didn't ask for anyone's perfume, and gerberas carry no scent to speak of. 3 Gerberas In A Vase also brings its own water, so nobody on the ward has to hunt for a jug.
There's a service to get right, or a family at home who've gone quiet since the visitors stopped coming. For the service, put the funeral director's name, the date and the time in the notes. For the house, a week on is often when flowers mean the most. They can't do much against what's happened, and they're still what people remember you sent. See flowers for a funeral or sympathy flowers for home. For the card: Thinking of you all.
If the service ends at a lawn grave, a tall vase tips in the first breeze there. A wreath lies flat on the turf and stays put, and whites such as the White Funeral Wreath don't compete with grief.
Not sure, or no big occasion at all? Maybe it's a thank-you to the neighbour who fed the dogs, a teacher at Gowrie State School on Old Homebush Road (full name and class in the notes), or just because. Thank-you flowers are hard to get wrong.
Anna's pick for these is the Beautiful Pastels Bunch. Soft colours read as kind whatever the reason, and they don't fight with anybody's curtains.

Gowrie Junction in full, never just Gowrie (Andrew explains below). A mobile for the person receiving them, and where to leave the flowers if nobody's home. For a hospital, the ward; for a funeral, the funeral director and service time.
At a house, whoever's home, or the spot you named. In hospital, the ward desk. In aged care, such as Palm Lake in Cranley, Carinity Brownesholme in Highfields or Northridge Salem in Rockville, usually reception. For a funeral, the funeral director, such as Burstows on Ruthven Street, Hiram Philp on Herries Street or McGrath on Mylne Street. Order before 2pm on a weekday and the flowers are on today's run.
A confirmation email lands straight away, and the flowers head out on the day you chose. No thank-you call by that evening? That's normal; they may still be at work. I took phone orders for years, and that quiet afterwards was always the hardest bit for the person sending, and nearly always a good sign.

In 2007 and 2008 the Toowoomba area was one of our ten busiest, and every order went to our florist there handwritten, by fax, from Kingscliff. Today our partner florists in Toowoomba make the Gowrie Junction orders, some of them with us more than thirteen years. Now and then an order arrives for plain Gowrie. There are three: Gowrie Junction, Gowrie Mountain and Gowrie Little Plain. The florist rings to check which. Write Junction.
Then the flowers are with them, and you can stop checking your phone.
