Buy online in a couple of minutes, or call us with whatever you've got, even just a name and a street, and one of our friendly, Australian-based team will fill in the gaps.
Flowers Last Longer in Highfields' Cooler Air, and Alstroemeria Shows It
Cool air is the best thing a cut flower can ask for, and at about seven hundred metres a Highfields house has more of it, most of the year, than a house on the coast. In cooler air a flower burns through its stored sugar more slowly, so the whole bunch lasts longer. Alstroemeria, the striped Peruvian lily in a lot of mixed bunches, shows it best: its buds open one after another, and in a room like that they keep coming for two weeks. On the bench at Salt, in a Kingscliff January, I watched the same stems manage barely a week.
Pinch off each flower as it finishes, because a dying one gives off ethylene and hurries the rest along. And keep the vase out of the afternoon sun.
Birthdays are the biggest reason people send flowers with us, and sympathy comes next. If you would rather not choose by occasion, our hand-tied bunches suit nearly all of them.
You have a birthday and an address, and in Highfields that address might be a street that went in last year, or a home at GemLife on Kratzke Road. Our birthday flowers get there either way. A mobile in the notes, plus the lot number if the house number isn't up yet, and the flowers will find them.
I know that one from the other end. In 2007 I drove a birthday bunch from our Marine Parade shop round and round the brand-new streets of Casuarina, Asha asleep in her capsule (thank goodness), until a man hosing his nature strip pointed me two streets over. We lived in Casuarina ourselves a couple of years later. I still couldn't tell you that street's name.
Anna's call: the Rose, Gerbera & Lilies Bunch. The lilies usually arrive in bud and take their time opening, so it looks better on day four than on day one.
Someone you love is in Toowoomba Hospital on Pechey Street, St Vincent's on Scott Street or aged care at Carinity Brownesholme on Highfields Road, and you can't get there this week. Send get well flowers for a hospital stay, or thinking of you flowers for a longer one in care. In our experience staff carry them in from the ward or the front desk, so the full name and the ward or room number in the notes gets them to the right bed. On the card: "Thinking of you. Hope you're home soon."
Go low and unscented. The 3 Gerberas In A Vase fits a cabinet without bothering the next bed. Keep the water clean, because a gerbera's hollow stem is the first to clog.
You have the notice and the service time, and probably a drive you can't make. For a service at St Anne's Anglican on Highfields Road, Highfields Baptist on Kuhls Road or a Toowoomba chapel such as Hiram Philp on Herries Street, choose funeral flowers and put the funeral director, the start time and the full name of the person who has died in the notes. For the family a few days later, send sympathy flowers to the home. Flowers are a small thing next to what the family is going through, and the family still reads every card. "Thinking of you all, with love" is enough.
A sheath is built to lie flat, on the coffin or beside it, so it needs no vase and nobody has to find a table for it. The White Lily & Rose Sheath is the classic.
Half the reasons people send flowers don't come with a heading: a teacher at Highfields State Secondary College at the end of term, a new baby, the neighbour who fed the dog all week. Thank you flowers or new baby flowers cover most of it. Anna has a view on this.
Send the Australian Natives Bunch. It suits a teacher, a new dad or an aunt with strong opinions, and any leucadendron in the mix can go three weeks in a cooler room. Split the woody stems a little at the base so they can drink.

A mobile, plus the lot number in a new street. The house number at GemLife, the full name and room at Brownesholme, the ward at Toowoomba Hospital or St Vincent's, and the funeral director and start time for St Anne's or a chapel.
Hospitals and care homes tend to take flowers at the desk, and schools at the office, so for a teacher at Mary MacKillop Catholic College on Highfields Road, add the teacher's full name. At a house, if nobody answers, the florist rings the mobile. Order before 2pm and they go out this afternoon.
An email confirms the order straight away. To change the card, the address or the day, email [email protected] or ring our team on 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm on weekdays.
And if they don't ring to say thanks that night, that's normal. Someone in hospital, or eighty-seven and tired after a big day, rarely reaches for the phone (I said so on the phones a thousand times, and it was always true).
The order goes to one of our partner florists in Toowoomba, some of whom have worked with us for well over a decade. They make it that day and it goes out on the afternoon run. Now and then a brand-new street isn't on the florist's map yet and the flowers go a run later. The lot number in the notes stops that. If anything arrives wrong, tell us the same day and send a photo. We fix it.
After that, the flowers do the talking.
