Flowers ordered for Middle Ridge before 2pm on a weekday are delivered that same afternoon; otherwise, the checkout lets you choose any day after. Toowoomba was one of our ten foundational delivery areas back in 2007. Sending to The Ninth on Rowbotham Street? Add the apartment number in the notes. Pick the Bright Bunch + Sparkling or the Natives Flowers With A Vase from our same-day range below, or call us, and one of our friendly, helpful, Australian-based team will talk it through with you.
Will Same-Day Flowers Still Look Good on Day Seven in a Middle Ridge House?
They should, and the reason is a few hours nobody sees. Conditioning is the time a stem stands in deep water before anyone arranges it. Toowoomba's stock comes up the range from the Brisbane market at Rocklea and arrives thirsty, the cut ends half sealed, and a few hours in a bucket lets it drink back to full. Skip that and the bunch looks lovely at the door and tired by the weekend.
I learned it at my first job in North Carolina, where a rushed wedding order had its roses hanging their heads inside three days. Altitude helps after that: Middle Ridge runs to 670 metres, and a cool lounge room slows a flower down. Recut each stem on an angle the day it arrives, and change the water every second day.
Birthdays are what we send most, and sympathy comes next. Middle Ridge also grew by more than 450 people between the 2016 and 2021 censuses, so there are plenty of housewarmings to send to as well.
Someone's turning fifty or sixty, the family's at the house, and you can't be. Send the flowers there even if lunch is at the golf club on Rowbotham Street, because a function room on the day is a busy place. For a 50th or a 60th, the Bright Bunch + Sparkling holds its own among the presents.
A wrapped bunch comes without one, so choose a vase with a little room in it: too wide and the stems flop, too narrow and they crush.
They've just moved into an apartment at The Ninth beside the golf course, or a house further along, and every bench has a box on it. A room at BlueCare on Stenner Street is the same problem in miniature: no spare vase, and nowhere much to put one.
Another golf course, another new address: in 2008 I took a housewarming arrangement from our Marine Parade shop to a lady in a brand new villa beside Tweed Golf Club at Banora Point. Unit 12, said the order (there were three Unit 12s, one in each block). I met two very polite men in slippers before I found her, and she'd watched the whole search from her kitchen window. I've looked for a block number on every unit address since.
Anna's pick: the Blissful Botanics Arrangement. Like most arrangements, it stands in its own container on wet foam (a metal cube, in this case), so nobody hunts for a vase. A splash of water into the foam every couple of days keeps it going.
The notice says Middle Ridge Uniting Church on Stenner Street, or Burstows on Ruthven Street. Send a wreath or sheath such as the White Funeral Wreath to the service, with the start time and funeral director in the notes, and something for the family home a day or two later. "Thinking of you all" is plenty on the card. It feels like the least you can do and the most you can manage, both at once.
On the bench we built wreaths last. A wreath spends the whole service out of water, and every hour it waits in a back room, the outer petals soften a little more.
Plenty of orders don't fit a heading: a thank-you to the neighbour who fed the dog, a friend's bad week, or no reason at all. Anna has one answer for the lot.
Send the Natives Flowers With A Vase. Woody natives go a fortnight or more in an ordinary lounge room, suit a man or a woman of any age, and arrive already standing in water.
More ways to choose
Order a birthday bunch before 2pm on a weekday and it's on their table the same afternoon.
See Every Birthday BunchWeekday orders placed before 2pm go out that afternoon, which gives our partner florist in Toowoomba time to build them properly.
Saturday's same-day cutoff is 10am, as Saturday deliveries run in the morning.
No Sunday delivery, except Mother's Day.
BlueCare on Stenner Street: the resident's full name and wing. The Ninth on Rowbotham Street: the apartment number. Middle Ridge Uniting Church or Burstows: the date, start time and funeral director. A house: a mobile number and a shaded spot.
In our experience, reception at BlueCare takes the flowers and staff carry them through, and St Vincent's Private on Scott Street takes them at the ward desk. Order before 2pm and it's with them this afternoon.
A confirmation email arrives straight away. On the delivery day our partner florist in Toowoomba builds it and takes it out. Then, usually, nothing (they open the door, ring their sister, and get round to you on Sunday).
To check on an order, ring 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays. To change the address or the day, email [email protected].
Most problems are small. The one I see most is a card printed exactly as it was typed, wrong name included, because the florist writes what's in the box. Read the message once before you pay. If the flowers aren't right, send us a photo the same day and we take it up with the florist. Address changes are easiest before the van leaves.
And if they ring you in tears, it's nearly always the good kind.
