We deliver flowers across Hawker today on orders placed before 2pm on a weekday, or 10am on a Saturday; after that, choose the day at checkout. Going to a house? Put their mobile in the notes, in case they're down at the bowls club on Beetaloo Street. Our Australian Native Arrangement below needs no vase and takes two minutes to buy online. Or call us, and one of our friendly, Australian-based team will do it with you.
Sending flowers to a Hawker house? Think about the vase they'll go in.
What lets a good bunch down in a house like this is the vase it ends up in. A home with the same owners for decades usually has one in the cupboard already, and it tends to be a tall one, bought for long-stemmed roses. Drop a hand-tied bunch in it and the heads sink to the rim, or the stems fall out sideways and the middle goes hollow.
Flowers look right at about one and a half times the height of the vase. I learned that at Salt in Kingscliff, where the same bunch looked generous in one of the shop's vases and mean in the next. Not sure what they own? Send flowers that bring their own vase. Whatever they stand in, they want fresh water every second day, or a top-up if they're set in foam.
Pick the occasion and borrow a line. A card gets read when the flowers arrive, and again once things go quiet.
The 2021 Census puts more than one in five Hawker residents at 65 or over, well above the Canberra average, so there's a fair chance you're sending to a parent. Some orders need no reason at all, which is what thinking of you flowers are for.
It's a birthday, quite possibly an 80th, in the home they've had for years, and the catch is they're often out.
In 2008 I drove a birthday bunch from our Kingscliff shop to a house in Tweed Heads, for a woman turning eighty. Nobody home. Her neighbour said Thursday was bowls, so I tracked the birthday girl down at Tweed Heads Bowls Club on Florence Street and stood at the edge of the green holding gerberas until she'd finished the end. She did not hurry. Hawker has a bowls club too, on Beetaloo Street, so put their mobile, or a neighbour or a shaded spot, in the notes.
Roses suit Mum's birthday here, arranged or with a vase if you can't picture hers. A cool room slows the bacteria that block the stems, so out of the afternoon sun the roses will hold ten days or more.
The family house has been sold, and home is now a room with a bed and a windowsill. Two of the nearest aged care homes are on Burkitt Street in Page: RSL LifeCare Bill McKenzie Gardens and Villaggio Sant'Antonio. Put the name of the aged care home, their full name and the room in the notes; in our experience reception takes the flowers from there. If they're unwell, our get well flowers go the same way, and the card can be as simple as "Get well soon, Mum. See you Sunday."
Send something that stands in its own vase, like the 3 Gerberas In A Vase. Gerberas carry no scent into a shared corridor, and the lot fits on a bedside table.
The notice is on your phone. Christ Church is at the Hawker Place shops; St Matthew's, the Catholic church, is on Chewings Street in Page. For funeral flowers, put the church, the start time and the name on the notice in the notes. Or send sympathy flowers to the home, which often mean more once the visitors stop. A card can be short: "Thinking of you all. With love."
Anna's pick for the church: the Gorgeous White Arrangement. It's built in foam inside a mirrored cube, with the flowers standing about one and a half times its height, so it needs no vase and goes home with the family afterwards.
Plenty of orders don't fit a neat heading: a thank you for whoever kept an eye on Dad, or for a Hawker College teacher once the Year 12 graduation is done.
Anna's answer when nothing fits is the Simply Stylish With Chocolates & Vase. The vase comes with it, so nobody has to find one, and the chocolates do the rest.

Before 2pm on a weekday, and it's in Hawker this afternoon, already arranged for the table.
Shop Flower Arrangements2pm weekdays, so our partner florist has the afternoon to make it and get it out. 10am Saturday, because the Saturday run finishes earlier. Order later and pick the day at checkout.
No Sunday delivery, except Mother's Day.
A house: their mobile, plus a neighbour or a shaded spot. Bill McKenzie Gardens or Villaggio Sant'Antonio: full name and room. Christ Church or St Matthew's: the start time and the name on the notice.
At a house, they do, or whoever you named. At aged care, reception, then staff. At a church, in our experience, whoever is setting up, which is why the start time matters. Before the cutoff, it goes out today.
One of our partner florists close to Hawker makes your order on the day you picked and delivers it. To check on it, ring 1300 360 469 or 02 8090 0577 (the one that works from overseas), 7am to 6pm weekdays and from 10am Saturday; both reach the same team. Changes go to [email protected].
Parents don't always ring the minute flowers arrive, and some leave the card on the bench for a week before they mention it (they're too busy showing everyone). That's normal. Back when I was on the phones, the orders that went wrong were nearly always the address, a unit number left off or a street typed in a hurry, and the flats at Hawker Place mean a lot of unit numbers, so check the address twice. A bunch of flowers is a small thing to send, and somehow it's the thing they remember you did that year.
That's the lot. We'll take it from here.
