Same Day Flowers Delivery - Australia Wide!
We deliver flowers to Meridan Plains, and on a weekday it can be today. Order before 2pm and our partner florist near the suburb makes it up and drives it out this afternoon, to a house, a ward, a chapel or a classroom desk; later than that, pick any delivery date at checkout. No courier depot, no overnight box: Lily's Florist has worked this way since 2009. For a teacher at Meridan State College on Parklands Boulevard, add their name and sub school to the notes. Pick from our same-day range below and pay securely online, or call us and one of our friendly, Australian-based team will read the card back before you hang up.
In a family kitchen on school-run time, the water gives out before the flowers do
People blame the Queensland heat when a bunch gives up early. Most of the time it's the water. Warm vase water grows bacteria fast, and within a day they've colonised the cut ends and started blocking the stems, so the flowers can't drink however full the vase looks. A few days in the heads droop, and everyone decides the florist sent old stock.
A Meridan Plains kitchen in February, lunchboxes on the bench and the back door open, is that warm room. Strip every leaf that sits below the waterline, because a leaf under water rots and feeds the bacteria. Tip the water out and refill it every second day, since a top-up only feeds yesterday's bacteria, and add the flower food if a sachet came with the bunch. Gerberas show the problem first. Their stems are hollow (florists call it a scape) and fold at the neck once they clog. Cut two centimetres off, stand them in a little warm water for an hour, and most lift again. I learned that at Salt in Kingscliff, with a whole bucket bowing at me.
The 2021 census put the biggest age group in Meridan Plains at ten to nineteen. That makes it a suburb of families, and the cards below follow a family's year: a new baby, a teacher at the end of term, a grandparent in a villa. Mum's birthday runs under all of it, and there's a whole range of birthday flowers for Mum.
The text came in with a name, a weight and one blurry photo, and you're nowhere near the Sunshine Coast. If the baby arrived at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, next door in Birtinya, send new baby flowers to the maternity ward under the mother's full name as she was admitted. Home already, or you can't tell? Send to the house.
I learned the name part the hard way in 2008, delivering out of our Kingscliff shop to the maternity ward at John Flynn on Inland Drive, Tugun. Pink bunch, a teddy, a card for Baby Olivia and the dad's surname. Mum had been admitted under her own. Twenty minutes at the maternity desk, the only bloke on the floor holding a teddy, while a midwife rang rooms. We found her. A maternity ward in Birtinya works on the same names as one in Tugun.
Anna's call: nothing that sheds, nothing heavily scented, nothing to look after. Maternity wards tend to keep lilies out because of the pollen near newborns, and a special care nursery usually takes none at all, so if the baby is in special care, send to the house. Soft pinks in a low arrangement that carries its own water suit a hospital windowsill.
For the card: Welcome to the world, little one. Sleep when you can.
Nan's turning seventy and she lives at IRT Woodlands on Lacebark Street. Easy enough, until the order form asks for an address. Woodlands is a retirement village and a care home on the one site, so give the villa number, or her full name and room for the care home. In our experience care-home flowers go to reception and a carer walks them in. There are 70th birthday flowers, and thinking of you flowers for when there's no birthday at all.
In a care room nobody tips the vase out every second day. An arrangement set in floral foam carries its own water, but foam water goes stale like any other. If family visit, draw the old water out with a sports bottle and refill it every few days, and the arrangement keeps going well past the birthday.
For the card: Happy 70th, Nan. Save me some cake.
Your kid's teacher got them through the year, and a card from the newsagent doesn't quite cover it. Send to the school while term is on, and to the teacher's house once the holidays start. Meridan State College and Pacific Lutheran College on Woodlands Boulevard are both big Prep to Year 12 schools, so put the teacher's full name and class in the notes; in our experience school flowers wait in the office until someone is free between classes. Thank-you flowers suit most teachers, and for a Year 12 finishing up there are graduation flowers.
A classroom has no spare vase, and a wrapped bunch left on a warm desk spends the afternoon drinking nothing; by the last bell the soft petals are going limp. Send a boxed arrangement. The box is the vase, it needs nothing from anyone all day, and it rides home on the floor of the car without tipping.
Some orders don't fit a category: the neighbour who fed the dog for a fortnight, a friend back at work after a rough month. Anna had a firm view on those.
For a house here in summer, start with a mixed bunch built around chrysanthemums. In my experience they go about ten days even in the heat, often more, with clean water, and people who think they look ordinary have never seen a good florist build with them. Add gerberas for the colour, and change the water, because the gerberas are the ones that notice.
Or start from a colour or a birthday
A weekday order in before 2pm goes out on this afternoon's run.
Birthday Flowers, Out Today2pm weekdays for same day, because our partner florist needs the rest of the day to build the order and drive it out.
10am Saturdays, a shorter day in the workroom.
No Sunday delivery, except Mother's Day.
After the cutoff, pick any delivery date you like at checkout.
The mother's full name for a maternity ward. The villa number, or the resident's name and room, at Woodlands. The teacher's name and class for a school. And a mobile for anyone at a house, so the florist can ring before leaving flowers on a hot step.
At a school, a hospital or a care home, from what our florists tell us, the office or reception signs and passes the flowers on. At a house, the person themselves, or a shaded spot you name in the notes if they're out. In before 2pm today, with them this afternoon.
Arrangements That Bring Their Own Water
Here's the sequence. You pay, a confirmation email arrives, and the order goes to our partner florist near Meridan Plains, who builds it that day, writes the card from what you typed and drives it out. Wrong name or villa number? Email [email protected] or call 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays. If something is wrong when it lands, email us a photo the same day. We fix it.
Back when Andrew and I took the calls ourselves, so many of the worried ring-backs were grandparents who'd sent flowers to a new baby and heard nothing for three days (a mum with a newborn is lucky to find her phone, let alone write a thank-you). The flowers are the least important thing in that house that week, and they're still in half the photos. One more thing, while I have you. If a flower you picked isn't at the market that morning, the florist swaps it for something the same colour and value, and it's noted on the order. Not ideal, I know. Better you hear it here.
The thank-you turns up in the end, sometimes from somebody else's phone.
