I am Siobhan. Andrew and I have driven through Somersby hundreds of times over the years, mostly on the way south to meet my parents Bill and Julie on the Central Coast, sometimes stopping at the Reptile Park with the girls when they were small enough to be impressed by a lizard. We bought a flower shop in Kingscliff in 2006 and grew it into a network of over 800 partner florists across Australia. Our full story is here if you want to know how a Yellow Pages mistake turned into a business.
Anna moved to Casuarina with her family and spent the next five years answering our phones from the Pottsville office. Before that she was a qualified florist, fifteen years on the bench, trained in North Carolina and working at a small boutique florist near Salt Village when we hired her. We brought her on because we needed someone who could talk to florists as a peer. She could.
There is a difference you can feel in the stem. Field grown flowers, the ones that have been through actual sunlight and wind and temperature shifts overnight, develop thicker cell walls. Greenhouse flowers are pushed to bloom fast and they are often softer for it. A rose grown outdoors will hold its shape three or four days longer than one forced under glass. You can test it. Press a petal gently. A field grown petal springs back. A forced one creases.
I got a call in early 2012 from a woman in Geelong. She had received two arrangements that week from different places. One came from a warehouse, looked perfect on arrival, petals fell inside three days. The other came through our network, a florist in Geelong West who sourced from the local growers. Twelve days. Same vase, same room, same water. She wanted to know why. The answer was where those stems grew up. The warehouse ones came off a greenhouse bench. The local ones came out of a paddock.
Central Coast florists have access to some of the best field grown stock in the country. You can grow almost anything between Somersby and the Hawkesbury. Mild winters, warm summers, enough rain. The stock that reaches Flemington Markets from this corridor competes with everything coming down from Queensland. A partner florist sourcing from Flemington in the early hours gets the pick of that harvest, builds your arrangement by mid morning, and delivers to Somersby before you get home from work.
Somersby deliveries have their own quirks. Properties are set back from the road, driveways are long, and gate codes are common. If nobody is home, the florist will leave the arrangement in a sheltered spot out of direct sun, usually near the front door or under a covered porch. Including a gate code or access note in your order saves the florist ten minutes and keeps your flowers out of a hot vehicle while they figure out how to reach the house.

* How it works. You order, we connect with a partner florist covering Somersby, they deliver fresh. No post. No boxes.
Somersby is acreage country mixed with industrial estates and the Reptile Park crowd. Deliveries here go to properties set back from the road, businesses along the highway corridor, and families out on larger blocks. If someone you care about lives or works here, flowers get noticed because they are unexpected in a place built around space and quiet. Gosford Hospital is about fifteen minutes away, so if you need to send something to a ward, check the get well section below for what the hospital will accept.
Promotions, retirements, exam results, a new grandchild. Celebration flowers work because bright stems fill a room without needing a vase upgrade. If the recipient works in one of the Somersby industrial units, something structured and compact travels better than a tall bouquet. Ask for bright mixed stems and let them build to whatever is at peak condition. Order before 2pm and it arrives today.
Anna, qualified florist: Go wide, not tall. That is the rule for celebrations. A low, full design with gerberas, chrysanthemums, and solidago holds its shape on a desk or kitchen bench. Tall bouquets tip in transit. Wide ones stay put.
Colour is doing most of the work here. Bright stems in pinks, oranges, and yellows feel like a birthday without needing a card to explain it. Have a look at our birthday flowers range and let the florist match to what is at peak condition. A $79.95 bunch fills a table. Order before 2pm and it arrives today.
Gerberas are the birthday stem. Flat face, big colour hit, and they last well if the florist cuts them fresh. They are hollow though, so they droop at the neck after a few days if the water level drops. Top up the vase daily and they will go ten days easy.
Gosford Hospital is the closest major hospital and most wards restrict what can come through the door. Lilies are banned in shared wards because the pollen stains linen and the scent triggers nausea in patients on medication. Strong fragrances are out. Foam bases are out because they harbour bacteria. Get well flowers in a compact boxed arrangement solve every restriction because they arrive self contained, no vase needed, no scissors, no mess on a shared bedside table. Order before 2pm and a boxed arrangement can be at Gosford Hospital today.
I always told callers to skip lilies for hospital. The pollen is orange and it stains everything it touches. Sheets, gowns, skin. Nurses spend enough time cleaning without adding lily pollen to the list. Go with chrysanthemums or carnations in a low box. They sit on the bedside table without taking over the space and they last well in air conditioning.

Whites, creams, and soft greens. Low and rounded, not tall. Height draws the eye in a room full of grief and that is the last thing you want the flowers to do. Our sympathy flowers are arranged with calming tones that sit quietly in a room. Your florist will know exactly which stems carry that weight. If you need them for a service, include the funeral director's name and timing in the order notes and the florist can coordinate directly. Call 1300 360 469 if you need to talk through the details.
Sympathy is where shape matters as much as colour. Round and low looks right. Anything spiky or angular feels wrong in that room. I go disbuds for structure, spray roses for softness, and ruscus to fill without making it busy. Stick to two or three colours. That is enough.
Let the florist decide. Florist's Choice at $74.50 gives them freedom to build with whatever is freshest and best value at the market. No photo to match, no specific stems to source. They pick what looks good and build something balanced. Flowers under $60 are available if budget matters. Either way, you get a result that would have been hard to choose from a screen.
Florist's Choice orders are where good florists show off. No constraints means they use the stems they are most excited about that day. The arrangements end up with more variety and they sit better than a fixed design because the florist is working with what the market gave them, not against it.

Same day cutoff, 2pm weekdays: Stems need time after market. Angled cut, stripped below the waterline, soaked in conditioned water, then built into the arrangement and driven out. If you are reading this before 2pm on a weekday, your flowers can be in Somersby today.
Saturday cutoff, 10am: Markets run a compressed morning session on Saturday. Buy, build, deliver, all before midday. After 10am there is no time left to start a new arrangement for same day.
No Sunday delivery: Flemington Markets shut on Sunday. Any florist delivering Sunday would be using Friday stock, which has already lost two days of vase life. We would rather skip a day and send fresh on Monday from that morning's market run.
Delivery fee, $16.95: Subsidised. A single delivery run to Somersby often costs more than that, especially to the properties off the main road. We absorb the difference because consistent pricing matters more than recovering every cent.
Once you place your order, we match it to a partner florist based on distance to the recipient, the type of arrangement, and that florist's track record with similar orders. Somersby falls within the hinterland delivery corridor, so the florist covering your order knows the area, the access patterns, and the drive times. There is no warehouse between your order and the door.
If something is not right, send photos of the front and back of the arrangement to [email protected] within 24 hours. You can also call 1300 360 469 or use live chat. We have sent thousands of orders to the Central Coast over the years. When something needs fixing, we fix it. Replacement, partial credit, or full refund depending on the situation.
Our reviews come through Feefo, an independent platform endorsed by Google. We cannot edit or delete them. 23,100+ verified reviews across three consecutive Trusted Service Awards. That track record is public and it belongs to the florists as much as it belongs to us.
