Same-day flower delivery runs out to Upper Lockyer for any order placed before 2pm on a weekday; after that, you choose the day at checkout. Out here a mobile and one landmark in the notes beat a house number, and that goes for a campsite at Murphy's Creek Escape on Thomas Road too. Our Australian Native Arrangement sits in its own water, so a wait at the house won't bother it, and sympathy flowers have their own tab below. Buy online from our same-day range below, or call us and one of our friendly, Australian-based team will sort it with you.
Upper Lockyer Runs Warmer Than Toowoomba. A Fresh Cut Keeps Flowers Drinking
A bunch that has waited in warm air usually hasn't cooked. It has stopped drinking: the cut end dries over and seals, and the heads hang before a single petal burns. Down off the Range the air runs warmer, too. The Bureau's average January maximum at Gatton sits about four degrees above Toowoomba's, and warmth speeds the whole thing up.
So recut every stem two centimetres up, at about forty-five degrees, and stand it in room-temperature water. A flat cut seals against the bottom of the vase; the angle keeps the channel open. A drooping gerbera lifts its head inside the hour. The first time I saw it was a bucket at Salt in Kingscliff that I'd been about to bin. Arrangement in foam? Skip the knife and top the foam up.
Birthdays come first across our orders, sympathy second. Out here the flowers usually finish their trip up a long driveway, and native flowers, our biggest sellers, cope well with a wait.
The birthday is today, and on a block this size they could be anywhere. Working in Toowoomba or Gatton? Send the birthday flowers to work. Home? Put a mobile in the notes, and how to find the house from the road.
I learnt that in 2008 at Upper Crystal Creek, out past Murwillumbah, with a bunch from our shop on Marine Parade. Letterbox on the road, gate shut, no house in sight, no mobile on the order. I stood there holding gerberas until the birthday girl rode over on the ride-on to see what the lost man wanted. Fair question. Upper Lockyer is the same sort of country.
Anna's pick: an arrangement, when nobody's waiting at the door. Wet foam holds water around every stem, so an hour on a shaded verandah costs it nothing. The Florists Choice Birthday Arrangement is built that way.
Someone has died, and the notice says a service in Gatton, a burial at Murphys Creek, or both. Funeral flowers go to the director, Gatton Funerals on Crescent Street or Burstows on Cochrane Street, who in our experience take them on from there. Sympathy flowers for the home can wait until the visitors thin out. On the card, "So sorry. Thinking of you all." is plenty.
A wreath is a poor stand-in for being there. It's also the one thing at the graveside with your name on it.
At a graveside, go a sheath or a wreath. A sheath is a spray of stems tied flat to lie on a casket lid, a wreath is built on a ring, and both sit on the turf where a vase tips over in the first gust. The White Funeral Wreath is made for it.
Someone from out here is in hospital, a drive in either direction. In for a few days? Send hospital flowers to St Vincent's on Scott Street, Toowoomba Hospital on Pechey Street or Gatton Hospital on William Street. Home tomorrow? Send get well flowers to the house.
Flowers tend to stop at the ward desk, so the full name, the hospital and the ward in the notes are what get them to the bed. "Rest up. The paddocks can wait." suits most cards.
Keep it low and compact; a bedside cabinet already holds a water jug and a phone. Gerberas and chrysanthemums carry no scent to bother the next bed. The Blissful Botanics Arrangement is about the right size and needs no vase.
Plenty of orders don't fit a heading: thank-you flowers for the neighbour who kept an eye on the place, an anniversary, a new house, or just because.
Anna's call: the Rose, Gerbera & Lilies Bunch. Three flowers that peak at different times, so it keeps changing in the vase. The roses and gerberas lead early, then the lily buds open one after another behind them, which in my experience carries it well into a second week.

Not sure anyone will be home? An arrangement sits in its own water. Order one before 2pm on a weekday and it's out to Upper Lockyer this afternoon.
Shop Flower Arrangements2pm on a weekday is the same-day line, which still leaves the afternoon to make it and bring it down the Range.
10am on Saturday, a short trading day for florists.
No Sunday delivery, except Mother's Day.
A mobile, and how to find the house: a property name, a gate colour, the second drive on the left. For a funeral, the director, the service time and the full name of the person who has died. For aged care, the resident's name and room, at Regis on Dawson Drive in Gatton or Carinity Brownesholme in Highfields.
Whoever answers at the house. If nobody does, the florist tends to ring the mobile, then leave the flowers in the shade your notes name. Directors tend to carry service flowers on to Holy Family at Withcott, St Joseph's in Helidon or Murphys Creek Cemetery. Order before 2pm today and they're on their way this afternoon.
Your order goes to one of our partner florists in Toowoomba as soon as it's paid for, some of them with us for well over a decade. They make it that day and bring it out, and if the house is hard to find, the mobile in the notes is the first thing they use.
Something not right when it arrives? Call 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays, or email [email protected] with a photo the same day.
When I was on the phones (from the shop in 2006 right up until Ivy arrived in February 2011) the call I took most, after orders, was some version of they haven't rung, did it even get there. It nearly always had. People on blocks like these are out doing things, and the thank-you comes after dinner. Now and then a property name in the notes turns out to be just what the family calls the place (lovely, and no help to a florist at all), so it takes a phone call and a bit longer.
Give us one landmark and a number to ring, and we'll find the house.
