We can get flowers to anyone in Wyreema today. Order before 2pm on a weekday, or 10am Saturday, and they'll be there this afternoon, in town or out on the acreage; any later, just pick the day at checkout. For a birthday, try the Florists Choice Birthday Bunch, and for sympathy, the Florists Choice Sympathy Bunch. If your person is in Toowoomba Hospital, add the ward to the notes. Buy securely from our range below, or call us and one of our friendly, Australian-based team will help you pick.
Will the Flowers Last All Week? Keep Them Away From the Fruit Bowl
Most will, as long as they're nowhere near the fruit bowl. Ripening bananas give off ethylene, a gas flowers read as the signal to finish, and lilies listen harder than most: the young buds drop before they open. I once watched a bunch of lilies lose every young bud beside a bowl of bananas. In a busy Wyreema family kitchen, the bench is where flowers get set down first, so move them to another room.
Away from the fruit, the buds open one after another over a week or more. Pinch the anthers off as each flower opens; they're the pollen-heavy tips in the middle. Wet pollen brushes away; dry pollen bonds to a shirt or a cream couch, and only sticky tape lifts it.
Across our orders, birthdays come first, then sympathy and get well, and Wyreema is no different. Native flowers, our biggest seller, suit all three.
You know the house and probably the dog, you just can't be there on the day. If they're out until school pickup, a mobile in the notes lets the florist ring them rather than leave the flowers on a hot step, and on acreage, add a line about the gate. Start with birthday flowers for Mum or our best-selling birthday flowers.
An arrangement sits in its own wet foam, so it's happy waiting until someone's home. The Florists Choice Birthday Arrangement is built that way.
A family in Wyreema has lost someone and you're too far away to sit with them. Flowers won't shorten the distance, and they still get there when you can't. For the service, put the funeral director and time in the notes (in Toowoomba that might be Burstows on Ruthven Street or Hiram Philp on Herries Street) and see our funeral flowers; sympathy flowers for home go to the family a few days later. A short card does it: "Thinking of you all, with love."
Anna's pick: the Gorgeous White Arrangement. It sits in wet foam, so it keeps drinking for days in a house where nobody is thinking about water.
Someone from Wyreema is in hospital and you can't get there to visit. There's no hospital in the town itself, so it's usually Toowoomba Hospital on Pechey Street or St Vincent's Private: put the ward and bed in the notes, and in our experience the flowers go to the ward desk and the staff take them in. If they're home recovering, send to the house. See our hospital flowers or get well flowers. A card can be light: "Home soon, we hope. Thinking of you."
In a shared room, go easy on scent. The 3 Gerberas In A Vase are bright, have no perfume and bring their own vase. Gerbera stems are hollow and clog fast, so fresh water every second day keeps the heads up.
A new job, a neighbour who fed the chooks, a teacher at the end of term. For Wyreema State School, put the teacher's full name and class in the notes, because school flowers tend to go to the office. In December 2007 I drove a bunch out to Chillingham Public School for a Mrs Smith. There were two. The office lady and I sorted out which one just before the bell went.
Anna's answer is easy: the Rose, Gerbera & Lilies Bunch. Three kinds of stem finish at different times, so it changes over the week instead of fading all at once. More mixed flowers here.

In our experience, wards take flowers at the desk, and aged care homes such as Bolton Clarke Westhaven in Harristown take them at reception. At the Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery on Anzac Avenue, a wreath or sheath lies flat on the lawn where a vase would tip. Ordered before 2pm today, it's there this afternoon.
You'll get an email confirming it. After that it goes quiet, and quiet is normal; people put flowers in water long before they think to ring anyone (sometimes it's days). If something isn't right, call 1300 360 469, 7am to 6pm weekdays and until 10am Saturday, or email [email protected].
In 2007 and 2008 the Toowoomba area was one of our ten busiest, and Siobhan and I took every call ourselves. A Wyreema order went onto a Word document and through the fax to our florist in Toowoomba. The fax is gone. The orders still go to partner florists in Toowoomba, some of them with us more than thirteen years. If what arrives isn't right, send us a photo the same day and we'll sort it.
After that, it's flowers in a vase in Wyreema, well away from the bananas.
